  • Luke Falk: Waived by New York

Falk was waived by the Jets on Friday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

With Sam Darnold (illness) back in action this weekend and the Jets re-signing David Fales to serve as his backup, Falk's time on the active roster has come to end. Should he clear waivers, he will likely return to the team's practice roster, which is where he started the regular season.

  • Jets' Luke Falk: Moves into backup role

Falk will serve as the Jets' No. 2 quarterback in Week 6 with the team announcing Tuesday that Sam Darnold (illness) would return from a three-game absence to start Sunday against the Cowboys, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Following a Week 4 bye, the Jets had been preparing for Darnold to return to action ahead of last weekend's loss to the Eagles, but he ultimately failed to receive full medical clearance in advance of the contest. That development resulted in Falk picking up another starting nod, though he only had the benefit of one practice worth of first-team reps ahead of the 31-6 loss. During his three outings (two starts) this season, Falk has completed a respectable 64.4 percent of his passes but only managed 5.7 yards per attempt and a 0:3 TD:INT while taking 16 sacks.

  • Jets' Luke Falk: Exits late in abhorrent outing

Falk exited after getting sacked late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 31-6 loss to the Eagles, Andy Vasquez of The Record reports. He completed 15 of 26 passes for 120 yards and two interceptions and lost one of two fumbles.

It's unclear if Falk's late removal was precautionary, performance-related or due to injury. Falk's first interception was returned 51 yards for a touchdown and his fumble saw the ball taken right out of his hands and returned 44 yards for a TD. It's apparent that the third-stringer isn't an NFL-level quarterback. Running back Le'Veon Bell is the only Jets player even worth fantasy consideration as long as Falk remains under center, but Falk's tenure as the starter could be coming to a close with Sam Darnold (mononucleosis) aiming to return by the team's Week 6 meeting with Dallas. If neither Darnold nor Falk are able to suit up, the next man up would presumably be David Fales.

  • Jets' Luke Falk: Cleared from possible concussion

Falk was checked for a concussion and cleared on the sideline at the end of Sunday's loss to the Eagles, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

That explains why Falk was removed late in the game. While his health is no longer in question for the team's Week 6 matchup with Dallas, the Jets would be in trouble if Falk is the starter given his poor play.
