Falcons' David Marvin: Misses first field-goal attempt
Marvin was unsuccessful in his lone field-goal try during Friday's 17-0 preseason defeat at the hands of the Jets.
Void of timeouts in the waning moments of regulation, Atlanta tried to sneak in a last-second field goal to at least avoid a shutout in its first game of the preseason. Out trotted Marvin -- the backup kicker for the SEC Champion Georgia Bulldogs last season -- but his first foray in the National Football League was a disappointing one, with the rookie pushing his attempt wide right as the clock expired. Marvin does not deserve to shoulder all the blame, however, as the situation was in complete disarray with the offense neglecting to hustle off the field on the previous play, while the snap and hold from his batterymates were far from flawless.

Falcons' David Marvin: Will kick in preseason opener
Marvin is slated to serve as the team's kicker for the preseason opener with Matt Bryant (undisclosed) sitting out, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.
Marvin spent last year playing for Georgia, but he didn't serve as the team's primary placekicker. He will temporarily fill in for the veteran Bryant, but it's not believed his injury is serious. Assuming that holds true, Marvin would have a tough time cracking the 53-man roster regardless of how he kicks in training camp.
