  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Quiet as backup

Chestnut rushed the ball once for three yards in Sunday's 32-27 win over the Texans. He added one reception on one target for two yards.

Chestnut was pushed into the backup running back role with Tyjae Spears (concussion) sidelined. However, he managed only two total touches and isn't likely to be a factor for fantasy purposes even if Spears remains sidelined for a Week 13 matchup against the Commanders.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Good to go vs. Bolts

Chestnut (foot) is active for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Chestnut was limited for the Titans' final two practices of the week due to a foot injury, but it's not severe enough to prevent him from suiting up Sunday. Chestnut will be Tennessee's No. 3 running back behind Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Questionable for Week 10

Chestnut (foot) was limited in Friday's practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Chestnut popped up on Thursday's injury report due to a foot issue, which limited him over the last two practices. If Chestnut cannot play Sunday, the Titans may elevate Jabari Small to serve as the No. 3 running back behind Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Working through foot injury

Chestnut (foot) was listed as a limited practice participant Thursday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

Chestnut was able to log a full practice Wednesday, but he was limited in Thursday's session due to a foot issue. His practice participation Friday will give a clearer indication on his status heading into Sunday's game against the Chargers. Chesnut has served as the Titans' No. 2 running back behind Tony Pollard (foot) for the last three games while Tyjae Spears was sidelined due to a hamstring injury. Over that span, Chestnut has logged 15 carries for 69 yards while adding one catch for nine yards.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Sees five carries

Chestnut rushed the ball five times for 22 yards in Sunday's 20-17 overtime win against New England.

Chestnut worked as the backup to Tony Pollard with Tyjae Spears (hamstring) sidelined for the third straight game. Pollard saw 31 total touches, leaving Chestnut with limited opportunity. Chestnut has 69 rushing yards on 15 attempts since Spears has gone down.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Tallies seven carries

Chestnut rushed the ball seven times for 32 yards in Sunday's 52-14 loss to the Lions.

Tyjae Spears (hamstring) was sidelined for a second consecutive week, which allowed Chestnut to see the highest carry total of his career. All of his rushing attempts came in the fourth quarter of the blowout loss, and he'll return to a special-teams role when Spears can return.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Earns four touches

Chestnut rushed the ball three times for 15 yards in Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Bills. He added one reception on one target for nine yards.

With Tyjae Spears (hamstring) sidelined, Chestnut stepped up as the backup to Tony Pollard. He saw a season-high four touches and eight offensive snaps. However, even if Spears remains sidelined for a Week 8 matchup against the Lions, Chestnut will almost certainly maintain a muted role.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Earns one offensive snap

Chestnut played one offensive snap and 17 on special teams in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Jets.

Chestnut played exclusively on special teams in Week 1 and saw a similar role in Week 2. He did take the field for his first offensive snap with Tyjae Spears (ankle) sidelined, and Chestnut could enter a Week 3 matchup against Green Bay as the primary backup to Tony Pollard.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Plays exclusively on special teams

Chestnut played 21 special-teams snaps in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Bears.

Chestnut made the Titans' roster as the third running back but he didn't see an offensive snap in Week 1. So long as Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears remain healthy, that is likely to remain the case.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Heavy workload against Seahawks

Chestnut rushed the ball 13 times for 45 yards in Saturday's 16-15 preseason win over the Seahawks. He added two receptions (on two targets) for 29 yards.

The Titans sat both Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears, leaving Hassan Haskins and Chestnut as the top backs available. Chestnut was utilized as the starter and carried a heavy workload. The majority of his yardage came on a 22-yard rush late in the second quarter, though he also led off the team's first possession with a 15-yard reception. Chestnut could begin the season third on the running back depth chart, but that won't translate to much work out of the backfield.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Back from injury

Chestnut (hamstring) participated in OTAs in May.

The running back spent most of 2023 on injured reserve, playing in only three games. Chestnut participated in six contests as a rookie the year before. Now that he's back, he'll get to compete for a role in the backfield behind free-agent signee Tony Pollard.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Returns to Tennessee

Chestnut (hamstring) is re-signing with the Titans on a one-year contract, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Chestnut appeared in six games with Tennessee as a rookie in 2022 but was limited to three appearances in 2023 before going on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury. Once healthy, he'll compete for a depth role in a backfield now headlined by free-agent signing Tony Pollard rather than Derrick Henry.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Going to IR

Tennessee placed Chestnut (hamstring) on its injured reserve list Tuesday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

After sustaining a hamstring injury during Sunday's 27-3 loss at Cleveland, Chestnut will now have to sit out at least Tennessee's next four games as he recovers. He's the second Titans running back to go to injured reserve in as many weeks, so it would make sense for the team to sign another back in the coming days.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Will not return

Chestnut (hamstring) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Browns, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.

Chestnut went to the locker with the help of trainers after suffering the injury and was unable to put any pressure on his left leg. His absence will leave the Titans with just Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears at running back for the remainder of the game.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Working behind Henry, Spears

Chestnut played one of his 16 snaps on offense and went without a touch in Sunday's 27-24 overtime win over the Chargers.

Chestnut has logged just six snaps on offense and has yet to record a carry or a reception while serving as the Titans' No. 3 running back behind Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears. Unless one of the two players above him on the depth chart misses time for whatever reason, Chestnut doesn't look as though he'll be in line for a regular role out of the backfield.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Survives cutdown day

Chestnut has a spot on Tennessee's initial 53-man roster, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

The pecking order appears clear, as rookie third-round pick Tyjae Spears worked ahead of the other backs all preseason and thus figures to be the No. 2 RB behind Derrick Henry. The No. 3 role then fells to Chestnut, who appeared to overtake Hassan Haskins (undisclosed) even before Haskins' combination of an injury and off-field issue landed him on injured reserve and then the commissioner's exempt list. Haskins will be out for at least the early part of the season and the Titans didn't sign any RBs to their initial practice squad after cutdown day. While he'll presumably start the year on special teams or as a healthy scratch, Chestnut is just one injury away -- to either Henry or Spears -- from getting snaps on offense.

  • Titans' Julius Chestnut: Stands out in preseason finale

Chestnut took nine carries for 30 yards and two catches for 42 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 23-7 preseason win over the Patriots.

Tyjae Spears repped ahead of the other backups as he has all preseason, with Chestnut taking over thereafter and making some big plays to ignite the Tennessee offense. Meanwhile, Hassan Haskins (undisclosed) and Jonathan Ward (knee) remained unavailable, leaving Jacques Patrick as the only RB left after Spears and Chestnut (a healthy Derrick Henry was unsurprisingly rested). Patrick did well with 17 touches for 94 yards, but Chestnut scored three TDs this preseason and may have earned the No. 3 RB role heading into a Week 1 road game against New Orleans.
