  • Packers' Lukas Van Ness: Cleared for Week 4

Van Ness (shoulder) does not have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports.

Van Ness tweaked his shoulder during the Packers' Week 3 loss to the Falcons. The injury limited him in all three practice sessions during Week 4 prep, but that's enough for the fourth-year pro to fade an injury tag ahead of Sunday's road tilt. Van Ness has accumulated 12 tackles (six solo), including 2.5 sacks, through the first three games of the regular season.

  • Packers' Lukas Van Ness: Logs another limited practice

Van Ness (shoulder) was limited in practice Thursday.

Van Ness is dealing with a shoulder injury that he suffered during last Thursday's loss to the Falcons. He's been been a limited practice participant on consecutive days to begin Week 4 prep, so he has a chance to suit up Sunday against the Buccaneers. However, if he ends up being unable to suit up, Brenton Cox could get more defensive snaps.

  • Packers' Lukas Van Ness: Working through shoulder issue

Van Ness (shoulder) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Van Ness presumably injured his shoulder during the Packers' 35-14 loss to the Falcons in Week 3, when he logged four tackles (one solo). He'll have two more opportunities to increase his practice participation and avoid an injury designation for Sunday's road tilt against Tampa Bay.

  • Packers' Lukas Van Ness: Shows out in overtime victory

Van Ness made 10 tackles (seven solo), including 1.5 sacks, in Sunday's 20-17 overtime win over the Jets.

Van Ness tied safety Evan Williams in tackles while logging the most sacks in the contest. The starting weak-side linebacker produced exceptional volume while playing 72 percent of the Packers' defensive snaps. Van Ness had a key sack on Geno Smith during the last drive of the first half to force a Jets punt.

  • Packers' Lukas Van Ness: Set to play Sunday

Van Ness (concussion) no longer holds any injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Jets.

Van Ness has completed the NFL's five-step concussion protocol ahead of Sunday's contest. The starting weakside linebacker was cleared by an independent neurologist and is all set to suit up opposite strongside linebacker Barryn Sorrell for the Packers' away contest with the Jets.

  • Packers' Lukas Van Ness: Questionable with concussion

Van Ness (concussion) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the Jets, Wes Hodkiewicz reports.

Van Ness suffered a concussion during the 39-22 loss to the Vikings in Week 1. The Packers' current starting weak-side linebacker will need to be cleared by an independent neurologist to suit up for Sunday's game against the Jets. If Van Ness is not cleared, Brenton Cox is set to start at weak-side linebacker across from Barryn Sorrell.

  • Packers' Lukas Van Ness: Dealing with concussion

Van Ness (concussion) was limited at the Packers' practice Wednesday.

Van Ness recorded four solo tackles, including 1.0 sacks, in the team's 39-22 loss to the Vikings in Week 1, but he appears to have suffered a concussion at some point in the contest. The 25-year-old's ability to practice in any capacity is a positive sign, but he will have to clear concussion protocol in order to play Sunday on the road versus the Jets.

  • Packers' Lukas Van Ness: Back on practice field

Van Ness (shoulder) resumed practicing Tuesday after not participating Sunday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.

Van Ness saw a short-lived absence, missing just one practice and coming back to the field on Tuesday. The 25-year-old is a presumed starting pass rusher but may not play in Green Bay's week two preseason matchup with Denver as a precaution for the injury that took place. Van Ness is expected to take on a bigger role to begin the 2026 season while Micah Parsons (knee) continues to rehab.

  • Packers' Lukas Van Ness: Absent with shoulder issue

Van Ness (shoulder) did not participate in Sunday's practice, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports.

It is unclear when Van Ness suffered the injury. The starting weakside linebacker will likely sit out Friday's preseason contest against the Broncos if there is even a small chance of further aggravation. If the 2023 first-rounder does not play Friday, Brenton Cox should see more reps with the first-team defense, and Collin Oliver and Nyjalik Kelly could receive more depth snaps.

  • Packers' Lukas Van Ness: Fifth-year option picked up

Van Ness had his fifth-year option exercised by the Packers on Thursday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.

The move keeps the 24-year-old under contract through 2027 and guarantees him a salary near $13.8 million. The three-year pro missed half of last season with an ankle injury, which caused him to finish with a disappointing 1.5 sacks and 19 tackles (12 solo) over nine regular-season games. The 2024 season wasn't much better as he recorded 33 tackles (22 solo) and six tackles for loss in 17 regular-season games, but he at least combined for 7.0 sacks over his first two seasons. Green Bay's switch to a 3-4 defensive scheme could impact Van Ness's playing time, but with Micah Parsons still rehabbing back from a December ACL tear and pass-rush depth lost this season in the form of Rashan Gary and Kingsley Enagbare, the new scheme won't be a reason that Van Ness, a 2023 first-round pick, would be kept off the field.
