  • Jim O'Brien: Signs with German club

O'Brien agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Nurnberg Ice Tigers (DEL) on Tuesday.

After making just 14 NHL appearances since 2013-14, O'Brien will give the DEL a try for the 2019-20 campaign. The 30-year-old saw action in just 11 AHL games last season due to injury, in which he notched three points. At this point, the University of Minnesota product has likely played his last game in North America and will eventually retire with eight goals, five assists and 16 PIM in 77 NHL contests.

  • Senators' Jim O'Brien: Skips back to minor league

O'Brien was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Wednesday.

O'Brien was called up Tuesday and ended up skating for 9:18 of ice time in a 7-2 home loss to the Panthers. The AHL's Senators don't play again until Friday, but the big club is expected to reintroduce Ryan Dzingel (bruise) in the lineup and he evidently takes priority over an inexperienced player like O'Brien, who has only managed to sneak into 77 NHL games at the top level between the Senators and Devils after Ottawa took him 29th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

  • Senators' Jim O'Brien: Called up Tuesday

O'Brien was recalled from AHL Belleville on Tuesday.

O'Brien has largely toiled in the minors since the Senators drafted him with a first-round (29th overall) draft pick in 2007. Ryan Dzingel has already been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Panthers, so O'Brien could be deployed for his 10th NHL contest of the 2017-18 campaign. Still, with only 13 points (eight goals, five assists) through 76 games at the highest level, he's a desperation play in fantasy.

O'Brien was recalled from AHL Belleville on Monday, Brent Wallace of TSN.ca reports.

Just a day after signing his new two-year contract, the 29-year-old will bump back up to the majors. Although O'Brien has been bouncing between the NHL and minors transaction wise the last several seasons, he's only played in four NHL games since the 2012-13 season. O'Brien signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Senators on Sunday, Brent Wallace of TSN.ca reports.

  • Avalanche's Jim O'Brien: Summoned to parent club

O'Brien was recalled by the Avalanche on Tuesday.

Despite hearing his name called by the Senators in the first round (29th overall) of 2007 draft, O'Brien has failed to garner a full-time role in the NHL -- he's only appeared in 67 career games -- and it's evident that he's best suited as a call-up option. In this case, he'll assume the spot of Rene Bourque, who has been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body ailment.

  • Devils' Jim O'Brien: Back in AHL

O'Brien has been returned to the minors, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

In 67 career games at that level, he's produced just eight goals and four assists -- that makes him little more than organizational depth at this juncture.

O'Brien has been recalled from AHL Albany.

O'Brien has contributed seven goals and five assists with the Baby Devils this season but has yet to make his season debut at the NHL level. A number of forwards that regularly play for the parent club are on the shelf -- including Michael Cammalleri, who is on injured reserve with an upper-body ailment -- so O'Brien gets the call as an insurance option.
