The 33-year-old winger opened the season on the second line but moved down to the third line as head coach Andrew Brunette shuffled up his middle six in an effort to spark the offense. More changes may be ahead after the Predators suffered their fourth straight loss. Marchessault has added 17 shots on net, seven hits and a minus-2 rating and should continue to be a fixture on the first power-play unit.

Of the Predators' three big free-agent signings, Marchessault had the most successful team debut. He set up a power-play goal by Filip Forsberg in the second period and also found Ryan O'Reilly for an extra-attacker tally in the third. Marchessault produced 42 goals and 69 points over 82 regular-season games with Vegas last year, his third season above the 60-point mark. The 33-year-old winger is a lock for top-six minutes and time on the first power-play unit in his first year with Nashville, and he should be a productive option for goals, shots and hits in particular.

The veteran winger potted the final two tallies for the Predators in the contest, with fellow offseason acquisition Steven Stamkos setting up the winner late in the second period. Marchessault lit the lamp a career-high 42 times in 2023-24 during his final season with Vegas, but skating with Stamkos at even strength and on the power play could allow him to repeat that level of performance in his Nashville debut.
