Wild's Matt Dumba: Gathers helper in loss
Dumba recorded an assist and two hits in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Stars in Game 2.
Dumba ended a seven-game point drought when he helped out on an Oskar Sundqvist tally in the first period. The 28-year-old defenseman had a tough regular season, notching just 14 points with 116 blocked shots, 104 hits, 99 shots on net and 81 PIM in 79 outings. His tough playing style fits in with the Wild, but he shouldn't be counted on for offense.

Wild's Matt Dumba: Garners helper in win
Dumba produced an assist, four shots on goal, two hits and two blocked shots in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Avalanche.

The 28-year-old is at 14 points, 90 shots on net, 77 PIM, 104 blocked shots and 94 hits through 73 appearances. His timing is poor, as Dumba is set for unrestricted free agency this summer, but he'll be coming off of his worst NHL campaign.

Wild's Matt Dumba: Expected to be scratched Saturday
Dumba is expected to serve as a healthy scratch on Saturday versus Florida, per Joe Smith of The Athletic.
Dumba was scratched for Thursday's 5-2 loss to Carolina, and Wild coach Dean Evanson has decided that he wants to go with the same lineup for Saturday's game. That suggests Alex Goligoski will play for a second straight contest in addition to Dumba remaining out. Dumba has four goals, 12 points, 58 hits and 64 blocks in 43 contests this season.

Wild's Matt Dumba: Scratched Thursday
Dumba served as a healthy scratch against the Hurricanes on Thursday. Coach Dean Evanson told reporters, "I won't get into specifics, but he knows why he's sitting out," Sarah McLellan of the Star Tribune reports.
Dumba has been a mainstay in the Wild's lineup, having logged all 43 games for the Wild this season before sitting out Thursday. The veteran blueliner hasn't been a healthy scratch since April 5, 2006 against San Jose. It's unlikely to be a long-term issue with Dumba telling reporters he was "pretty surprised" by the decision. Alex Goligoski stepped into the lineup in Dumba's stead.

Wild's Matt Dumba: Caps Thursday's scoring
Dumba scored a goal during Thursday's 6-4 loss to the visiting Penguins.
Dumba, who has two goals during his past five outings, is starting to flash the offensive potential he displayed from 2015-19. During those four seasons, the 2012 No. 7 overall draft pick collected a combined 47 goals. The 28-year-old defenseman has 21 goals over the past three-plus campaigns. Dumba's second tally this season capped Thursday's scoring and developed from a one-timer from the left faceoff circle with eight seconds remaining. He finished with a plus-2 rating, two blocks and two PIM.

Wild's Matt Dumba: Tallies game-winner
Dumba scored a goal on three shots, blocked two shots and added four PIM in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Ducks.
Dumba put the Wild ahead 1:41 into the third period, and his goal was all they needed for the win. The defenseman snapped a 10-game point drought with the tally. He's had a rough start to 2022-23 with three points, 19 shots on net, 21 hits, 24 blocked shots, 17 PIM and a minus-5 rating in 13 outings. Part of that has been a byproduct of the Wild's overall struggles, but the 28-year-old isn't doing much to stand out, especially with virtually no power-play time. For now, Calen Addison and Jared Spurgeon seem to be head coach Dean Evason's preferred blueliners with the man advantage.

Wild's Matt Dumba: Getting almost no power-play time
Dumba has seen almost no time on the power play in the early stages of the season.
Dumba averaged 1:45 of ice time with the man advantage last season, which isn't a ton, but it's enough to be noteworthy. So far in 2022-23 though, his power-play ice time has totaled 0:21 over four games. During Thursday's 4-3 overtime win against Vancouver, Minnesota had three power-play opportunities -- and Dumba wasn't on the ice for any of them. Dumba only had five power-play points in 2021-22, so between the lack of production and recent reduction in opportunities, his final stock could be tumbling.
