Horvat cut the Islanders' deficit to 2-1 early in the second period, converting on the power play before Calum Ritchie tied the game less than two minutes later. The Islanders couldn't build on the momentum, but at least Horvat found the back of the net for a second straight game. He has tallied at least one point in his three appearances in the 2026-27 campaign, with two goals, one assist and 10 shots over that span. As the first-line center in both even-strength and power-play situations, Horvat should remain a go-to scoring option for the Islanders until further notice.

Horvat scored the Islanders' first power-play goal of the season at 12:08 of the second period, taking a feed from Matthew Schaefer and beating Nico Daws from the right circle to extend the lead to 3-0. The tally represented Horvat's 100th goal and 200th point as an Islander. He has opened the campaign with points in consecutive games after assisting on Emil Heineman's short-handed goal in Wednesday's loss to Toronto, and the 31-year-old should be a steady offensive contributor for the Isles as long as he stays healthy, given his first-line role on both even-strength and power-play shifts.

Horvat was limited to 68 regular-season appearances last year, but he remained efficient with 31 goals, 26 assists, 51 hits, 40 PIM and 38 blocked shots while averaging 20:46 of ice time. The 2026-27 campaign will be his fourth full season with the Islanders, and he's set to take on a leadership role for the team.
