Sergei Boikov: Bound for Russia
Boikov signed a two-year contract with Dynamo Moscow (KHL) on Tuesday.
Boikov registered one goal and 10 helpers with AHL Colorado last season and wasn't able to break his way into the NHL with the Avs. While the organization did give the 23-year-old a qualifying offer, he appears to prefer returning home to his native Russia rather than continuing to play in the minors.

Avalanche's Sergei Boikov: Receives qualifying offer
Despite a previous report that suggested otherwise, Boikov will receive a qualifying offer from Colorado prior to Tuesday's deadline, Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic reports.
Boikov spent most of the 2018-19 campaign with AHL Colorado, tallying 11 points while posting a minus-5 rating in 56 regular-season games. The 23-year-old Russian will almost certainly remain in the minors for the majority of the 2019-20 campaign, so there's no reason for fantasy owners to track his status.

Avalanche's Sergei Boikov: Not qualified by Avs
Boikov didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Avalanche, making him an unrestricted free agent, Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic reports.
Boikov doesn't seem to be an NHL-caliber player. The 2015 sixth-rounder has never appeared at the top level and produced only 11 points in 56 games with AHL Colorado last season.

Avalanche's Sergei Boikov: Shipped down to minors
Boikov was reassigned to AHL Colorado on Thursday.
Prior to getting hurt, Boikov was likely in contention for a roster spot with the Avs, but after missing nearly all of training camp with a shoulder issue, the 22-year-old will head down to the AHL. The Russian could earn a call-up during the season, but a crowded field of defensemen looking for minutes could limit his chances.

Boikov (shoulder) will be in the lineup for Wednesday's exhibition game against the Stars.
Boikov missed the entirety of the 2017-18 campaign due to a shoulder injury, so it's definitely encouraging to see that he's finally been cleared to return to game action. However, Colorado is pretty deep at defense, so he'll almost certainly be assigned to AHL Colorado prior to the season opener, where he'll likely spend most of the year.

In 63 games with AHL San Antonio last season, Boikov tallied three goals, 13 assists and 69 PIM. The Russian is facing an uphill battle for a spot with the 23-man roster, especially given the depth of talent on the Colorado blue line.

Boikov probably wasn't going to make Colorado's Opening Night roster this season, but this injury will set the young blueliner's development back a bit. Once healthy, the 2015 sixth-round pick will likely report to AHL San Antonio.
