  • Dan Hamhuis: Calls it quits

Hamhuis announced Thursday that he has chosen to retire from hockey.

The timing is certainly interesting for Hamhuis after he failed to suit up in any postseason action for the Predators in the NHL's 'bubble.' The 37-year-old enjoyed an outstanding 16-year career in the NHL, however, spending time with Nashville, Vancouver and Dallas. A member of the elusive 1,000-game club, Hamhuis accumulated 52 goals and 330 points over his career. Although a staple on the back end chose to retire in a Predators uniform, the team has a bright future ahead of it with youngsters Dante Fabbro, Alexandre Carrier and David Farrance.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Scratched for Game 1

Hamhuis is a healthy scratch for Game 1 against Nashville.

This doesn't come as much of a surprise, as Nashville was expected to rotate the bottom pairing of the blue line between Hamhuis, Korbinian Holzer, Yannick Weber and Jarred Tinordi. For Game 1, Weber and Tinordi got the nod.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Healthy for restart

Hamhuis (lower body) will be available for the Predators' play-in series against the Coyotes, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports.

Hamhuis missed the final four games prior to the league shutdown due to his lower-body injury but appears to have used the time off to fully recover. With the veteran back in action, the final spot on the blue line could be a game-to-game decision by the coaching staff between Korbinian Holzer, Yannick Wever and Jarred Tinordi.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Still sidelined

Hamhuis (lower body) won't play Saturday against Dallas.

Hamhuis will miss a third straight game Saturday, and the Predators have yet to release an expected timetable for his return. Either way, there's no reason for fantasy owners to track his availability, as he's only notched eight points while averaging 14:31 of ice time in 60 games this campaign.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Slated to sit

Hamhuis (lower body) isn't on the ice for warmups, indicating he won't suit up in Thursday's game against Dallas, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports.

The 37-year-old will miss his second consecutive game while dealing with the lower-body issue. The specifics surrounding the injury remain unclear, as Hamhuis still doesn't have a clear timetable for a return. In his stead, Korbinian Holzer will draw into the lineup for the first time since he was acquired from Anaheim at the trade deadline.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Won't play against Wild

Hamhuis (lower body) is day-to-day and will sit out of Tuesday's game versus the Wild.

Hamhuis is a late scratch, and the team will deploy either Yannick Weber or Korbinian Holzer in his place on the third pairing. His next chance to enter the lineup will be Thursday's home matchup against Dallas.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Rare assist in Saturday loss

Hamhuis notched his seventh assist of the season in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Oilers.

The 37-year old Hamhuis is now in the twilight of his career, averaging his lowest-ever ice time at just 14:43 per game skating on the team's third defensive pairing. Now in the final year of a two-year, $2.5 million contract, Hamhuis will likely be looking for another team to play for next season as the Preds have a lot of young, up-and-coming defensemen who can join their ranks next year. He should not be on anyone's fantasy roster at this point.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Quiet in return

Hamhuis (upper body) skated 17:18 in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Stars.

Hamhuis missed just one game after taking a puck to the face. He was forced to play more than his season average of 14:08 per game due to Ryan Ellis' upper-body injury early in the fist period. If Ellis is out long-term, Hamhuis may continue to see extra ice time.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Officially in for Winter Classic

Hamhuis (upper body) will play in Wednesday's Winter Classic against the Stars, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports.

Less than a week after taking a puck to the face, Hamhuis will retake the ice outdoors. The 37-year-old is averaging 14:08 of ice time per game, and he's notched five points through 35 contests.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: On track to play Wednesday

Hamhuis (upper body) is expected to play in Wednesday's game against the Stars, Adam Vingan of The Athletic reports.

Hamhuis is a bottom-pairing player, and he wasn't initially slated to be ready for this contest after taking a puck to the face in last Friday's loss to Pittsburgh. However, he should be ready to rock for the Winter Classic. The 37-year-old isn't the concern of fantasy managers, though, as he's only notched five points over 35 games.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Not expected to play

Hamhuis (upper body) isn't in the projected lineup for Saturday's game against the Penguins, NHL.com's Wes Crosby reports.

Hamhuis exited Friday's loss to the Penguins in the first period after taking a puck to the face, so it's not surprising to see that he won't be available for Saturday's rematch. Jarred Tinordi is expected to fill in on Nashville's bottom pairing against Pittsburgh.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Takes puck to face

Hamhuis took a puck to the face in Friday's game versus the Penguins and exited the contest in the first period. He will not return.

Hamhuis exited after the deflected puck drew blood. The Predators will have to finish the game with five blueliners. More information should surface on Hamhuis' condition prior to Saturday's rematch in Pittsburgh.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Ice time dwindling

Hamhuis skated just 11:41 in Monday's 3-2 win over the Coyotes, his lowest ice time of the season.

Surprisingly, the 36-year-old Hamhuis has skated in 34 of a possible 36 games so far this season after suiting up just 57 times all of last year. However, with Hamhuis' two-year contract with the Preds set to expire at the end of this season, and top defensive prospects Alexandre Carrier and Frederic Allard waiting in the wings, don't be surprised if this turns out to be Hamhuis' last season in Nashville. He has just 10 points in 91 games over the past two seasons.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Adds helper Saturday

Hamhuis posted an assist, two shots on goal and two blocked shots in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Devils.

Hamhuis had the primary helper on Daniel Carr's opening tally just 46 seconds into the game. Points have been hard to come by for the defenseman -- he's at three assists and just 17 shots in 26 contests. Hamhuis has added 39 hits and 21 blocked shots this season, but his lack of offense and third-pairing role will keep most fantasy owners away.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Collects assist in loss to Jets

Hamhuis picked up his second assist of the season during Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Winnipeg.

The 36-year-old defenseman is not the point producer he once was, with Hamhuis only managing two points through 18 games this season. His 14:31 of ice time per game is a career-low and proof that his role with Nashville comes with a limited scope, making the veteran blueliner a forgettable commodity in 2019-20 fantasy leagues.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Still waiting for first point

Hamhuis has zero points in 11 games this season, and is seeing the lowest ice time of his career, averaging just 14:24 on the Preds' third defensive pairing.

The good news is Hamhuis played in his ninth straight game Thursday against the Flames after sitting out as a healthy scratch for two consecutive contests earlier in October. However, he has yet to crack the scoresheet this season, which may not come as much of a surprise after he registered just five points in 57 games last year. The 36-year-old defender is in the final year of a two-year, $2.5 million contract and it will be interesting to see whether or not he decides to call it a career after this season. In the meantime, he shouldn't be in anyone's fantasy lineup.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: In and out of lineup

Hamhuis skated 15:08 Saturday against the Kings, after missing the previous two games as a healthy scratch.

The 36-year-old blueliner saw part-time duty last season for the Preds, playing in just 57 games and recording five assists. So far, all signs point to him filling a similar role -- with similar output -- this season. He has yet to post a point in three contests.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Activated for Saturday's clash

Hamhuis (leg) was activated from injured reserve Saturday, and he'll be in action against the Blue Jackets, Adam Vingan of The Athletic reports.

The veteran reportedly will form the third defensive pair with Dante Fabbro -- a product of Boston University, who was the team's 17th overall pick from the 2016 draft. Hamhuis should wear the leadership hat quite well, but he's hardly a viable fantasy option with only five points representing his point total through 53 games this season.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Still sidelined Friday

Hamhuis (leg) remains out of the lineup Friday against the Penguins, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports.

Despite logging a full practice last Sunday, Hamhuis still needs some more time before he'll be ready for game action. While Saturday against the Blue Jackets marks his next opportunity to return, the short turnaround between contests makes it seem unlikely he will draw in.

  • Predators' Dan Hamhuis: Out Monday

Hamhuis (leg) is still on injured reserve and will not play Monday in Minnesota, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports.

Hamhuis recently returned to practice in a regular jersey, so he should be nearing his return. Nashville is off until Friday in Pittsburgh, hopefully giving him plenty of time to be ready to make his official return.
