  • Jared Boll: Calls it a career

Boll officially announced his retirement after 11 NHL seasons Wednesday, The Athletic reports.

Boll spent nine seasons with the Blue Jackets and two more in Anaheim, averaging 118 PIM and roughly 94 hits per campaign. He'd only amass 66 points over 579 career games, but Boll always stood up for his teammates, and he really made a name for himself earlier in his career when almost every team had a designated enforcer. Nowadays, the NHL game is centered around speed and skill -- even for fourth-liners.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Sent down to minors

Boll was reassigned to AHL San Diego on Thursday.

The Ducks needed room for goalie Reto Berra on the active roster, so Boll drew the short straw. He's a physical winger who's PIM-laden game would've fit better in the earlier part of this decade.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Promoted to parent club

Boll was called up from AHL San Diego on Friday.

The Ducks needed the extra depth with Patrick Eaves (illness) and Michael Liambas (undisclosed) still unavailable. Boll, a physical winger, gets the last laugh here, as the Ducks exposed him to waivers in mid-December.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Placed on waivers

Boll (undisclosed) was waived by Anaheim on Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Boll had been on injured reserve, but this roster move must mean he's healthy. The 31-year-old forward has one assist in eight games this season.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Lands on IR

Boll (undisclosed) is listed on injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site.

Boll was rocked by two punches during his scrap with LA's Andy Andreoff in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Kings, so the fact that he's dealing with an injury doesn't come as much of a surprise. The 31-year-old forward, who has potted one goal in eight games this season, can be considered out indefinitely.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Watches from press box Tuesday

Boll was a healthy scratch during Tuesday's 6-2 win over Philadelphia.

Boll averaged just 4:01 of ice time through the first six games of the season, so with Anaheim returning forwards to the lineup, it wasn't surprising to see him sit this contest out. He hasn't posted a double-digit point total since the 2010-11 campaign, so there aren't many fantasy settings where he moves the needle, and especially since Boll could have trouble slotting into the lineup going forward.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Entering training camp in good health

Boll (back) will start training camp off the injury list.

This injury was described as a "bad back" and wasn't expected to continue into the season. Boll averaged just 5:49 of ice time in 51 games last season, and the veteran enforcer spent 87 minutes in the box.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Played through back injury

Boll played with a "bad back" this postseason.

There's been no indication that Boll's injury will be a long-term ordeal, so he should be ready for the start of next season's training camp. Either way, his health shouldn't be of much concern to fantasy owners. The 31-year-old winger only managed to pick up three assists in 51 games this season.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Tagging in for Game 2

Boll will play Friday in Game 2 against the Oilers, Greg Beacham of the Associated Press reports.

Boll will take the place of Nick Ritchie; both players are gritty, but it's Ritchie with the offensive skills, so this lineup change is a bit surprising to us. While Boll is far more experienced in terms of actual NHL service time, he's only appeared in three playoff games in nine years, and none since he was a member of the Blue Jackets in the 2013-14 season.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Sits again Sunday

Boll was a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game Sunday against Vancouver.

With just two assists and only nine shots on net through 41 games this season, Boll's only fantasy appeal was his contribution in the PIM column (73). Now that he's likely to watch from the press box most nights, he's nothing more than a desperation option, and counting on Boll in any setting is ill-advised.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Posts first point in three months

Boll posted an assist with a plus-1 in Saturday's 5-3 loss against the Wild.

Boll isn't on the ice for his offensive skills, he is on the ice as a protector for the star players in Anaheim. He racks up plenty of penalty minutes in limited ice time, and he has racked up 34 hits in 33 games. Still, the enforcer is only worth a look in the very deepest of pools.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Finds scoresheet against Philly

Boll picked up an assist and posted a plus-1 rating against the Flyers on Thursday.

Boll collected just 19 points through 227 games over his final five seasons with the Blue Jackets, so he's unlikely to morph into much of an offensive presence for the Ducks. He does pile up the tallies in the penalty minutes and hits columns, though. Boll has six PIM and five hits through his first four games, and when he's in the lineup, you can expect contributions in those categories.

  • Ducks' Jared Boll: Signs two-year deal with Ducks

Boll signed a two-year contract with the Ducks on Tuesday that will net him an average salary of $900,000 per year, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.

After spending the first nine years of his career with the Blue Jackets, Boll will get a change of scenery, as he"ll head to the Ducks for the 2016-17 campaign. However, the 30-year-old winger notched just three points this past year and hasn't recorded over six points in five straight seasons, meaning his fantasy value will remain severely restricted. Injury concerns only add to his poor fantasy outlook, so he may be a player to avoid unless he sees an increased role with his new team.

  • Jared Boll: Hits unconditional waivers

The Blue Jackets placed Boll on unconditional waivers Thursday with the intent to buy out his contract, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.

Columbus is clearing up cap space ahead of the July 1 signing period. Placing him on unconditional waivers is the first step in the process and if he clears, Boll will end up saving the team $1.33 million in 2016-17 while limiting the buyout cap hit to $566,666 in each of the next two seasons. Boll plays with an edge and really gets under the skin of opponents. However, he's a career fourth-liner who only averaged 6:39 of ice time in 30 games last season. Injuries are also a concern when it comes to the 30-year-old winger.

  • Blue Jackets' Jared Boll: Available against Carolina

Boll has served his four-game suspension and is eligible to return to the lineup against the Hurricanes on Saturday.

Boll was given a heftier suspension under the league's repeat offender rules, so he will need to be on his best behavior to avoid increased penalties over the next 18 months. Unless you are in need of PIM, it would be wise to avoid the winger for your daily lineups as he has tallied a paltry two points on the year and is averaging 6:33 in ice time per game.

  • Blue Jackets' Jared Boll: Suspended next four contests

Boll received a four-game suspension from the NHL for his hit on Philadelphia's Pierre-Edouard Bellemare.

Boll was considered a repeat offender for the hit, which played a role in the length of the ban. In total, the winger will forfeit over $82,000 while sitting on the sidelines. In terms of fantasy value, Boll has offered very little this season -- the 29-year-old is averaging a meager 6:33 of ice time per game and has tallied only two points, 59 PIM and 49 hits.

  • Blue Jackets' Jared Boll: Won't play Thursday

Boll will not be in Thursday's lineup against Carolina.

The same applies to Rene Bourque, though Boll's absence from the Columbus lineup only affects those in fantasy leagues where his PIM (59 in 28 games) and hits (49) factor in.

  • Blue Jackets' Jared Boll: Phone hearing on tap

Boll is slated to have a phone hearing with the NHL on Thursday pertaining to the check that he delivered on Philadelphia's Pierre-Edouard Bellemare on Tuesday, TSN.ca reports.

Per the Columbus Dispatch, Boll has been suspended by the league twice before, so there's a decent chance he'll face some sort of punishment here, but the fact that his hearing is of the phone variety suggests that any suspension Boll might draw will be less than five games. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound winger has just two points in 28 games for Columbus this season, but he has racked up 59 PIM in that span, including 15 on Tuesday.
