    The Buccaneers waived Johnson on Sunday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.

    Johnson signed a reserve/future contract with the Bucs in January after spending all of 2023 on Tampa Bay's practice squad. He wasn't able to record a catch over his three preseason outings, and he wasn't able to make the Buccaneers' 53-man roster. Johnson could opt to stick around on the Bucs' taxi squad for a second straight season or look to catch on elsewhere.

    Johnson signed a reserve/future contract with the Buccaneers on Tuesday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.

    Johnson spent the 2023 campaign on Tampa Bay's practice squad and never made it to the active roster. The big-bodied receiver initially went undrafted out of SE Louisiana before being scooped up by the Vikings as an undrafted free agent. However, he eventually found his opportunity with the Bucs once he was waived by Minnesota in August.

    Johnson played quarterback at Southeastern Louisiana but impressed the Buccaneers with his combination of size and speed while trying to make the team as a wide receiver in camp. He's 6-foot-4 and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.57 seconds.

    Johnson joined the Bucs on Aug. 12 after being cut by the Vikings five days prior. The undrafted free agent out of Southern Louisiana was a quarterback in college and was attempting to transition to wide receiver during the offseason and training camp. He'll have to continue that work elsewhere once he clears waivers.

At 6-foot-4 with a 4.57 40-yard dash, Johnson has the size and speed to play at the NFL level, but he's new to the wideout position, as he played quarterback in college. The 23-year-old figures to have an uphill battle to land a Week 1 roster spot with Tampa Bay.
