The Orioles placed Alexander on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a fractured left hand, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

The move is retroactive to July 13, as Alexander suffered the injury in Sunday's game against the Royals when he was hit by a pitch in the hand. He's likely looking at more than the minimum stay on the injured list. Alexander is enjoying a career year in his first season with Baltimore, slashing .312/.368/.439 with four homers, 29 RBI, 31 runs scored, nine stolen bases and a 16:54 BB:K across 246 plate appearances. Alexander has become the Orioles' everyday third baseman. Coby Mayo, Jeremiah Jackson and Christian Encarnacion-Strand could all see extra playing time with Alexander sidelined.

The Cardinals released Koperniak on Wednesday.

Koperniak was added to St. Louis' 40-man roster after the 2024 season, but he had a sub-.700 OPS each of the last two seasons at Triple-A Memphis and is now out of the organization. The 28-year-old will now be on the lookout for a new minor-league deal elsewhere.

Ryan is not listed among the Twins' probable pitchers for this weekend's series against the Cubs, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Ryan made his last start of the first half Saturday and then threw a scoreless frame during the All-Star Game. The Twins will give him a little extra rest before his first outing of the second half, which will likely come Monday in Cleveland. Ryan logged a 2.85 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 128:25 K:BB over 110.1 innings covering 20 first-half starts.

Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Resumes mound work
    6h ago

Glasnow (back) threw a bullpen session this past weekend, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Glasnow's recovery from lower-back spasms has dragged on much more than anticipated, but a return to throwing off the bump is a big step. He has not pitched in a game since early May, so Glasnow will require multiple rehab starts whenever he is cleared for a rehab assignment. The Dodgers' primary objective is to have Glasnow healthy for the postseason, so expect them to continue slow-playing the right-hander.

Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Tentatively lined up for Sunday
    6h ago

DeGrom (glute) appears tentatively lined up to start Sunday's game in Atlanta, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

DeGrom had to be scratched from his final scheduled start of the first half due to a mild left glute strain. He planned to play catch over the All-Star break before likely throwing a bullpen session this weekend. As long as he gets through that mound session without any hiccups, deGrom is likely to take the ball Sunday in the series finale. If deGrom needs a little more time, the Rangers could push him back to start during next week's home series versus the White Sox.

A path was cleared for Lopez to re-enter the Athletics' rotation when Aaron Civale was designated for assignment Wednesday. Lopez has made two relief appearances since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas last week, allowing four runs with a 5:1 K:BB over 4.2 innings. All told, the southpaw has logged an ugly 6.83 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 43:34 K:BB over 55.1 innings in the majors this season.

The Reds have agreed to terms with Burns on a seven-year, $105 million contract extension, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.

The deal will begin in 2027 and run through 2033 and is a major-league record for a pitcher with less than four years of service time. Burns made his first All-Star team in 2026, carrying a 2.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 118:37 K:BB over 102.2 frames across 18 starts into the break. The right-hander boasts a 30.8 percent strikeout rate in 31 career appearances (26 starts) at the big-league level.

That showing has earned Hughes at least one additional start, though he should be avoided for fantasy purposes with the outing against the Reds coming at Coors Field.

Phillies' Seth Johnson: Recalled from Triple-A

The Phillies recalled Johnson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.

With Brad Keller surely out for the season after being diagnosed with a UCL tear, Johnson will come up from the minors to replenish the Phillies' bullpen depth. The 27-year-old owns an 8.20 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over 26.1 innings in his MLB career and hasn't been much better in the big leagues this year, conceding nine earned runs in just 11.1 frames. He'll likely be limited to a low-leverage relief role.

The Phillies placed Keller on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a torn UCL in his right elbow.

Keller returned from the injured list July 8 after missing nearly a month due to forearm tendinitis, but he'll now likely miss the remainder of the season because of his latest injury. If he decides to undergo surgery to address the issue, he would likely miss most, if not all, of the 2027 campaign, as well. Seth Johnson will come up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill the vacancy in Philadelphia's bullpen.

Blue Jays' Spencer Miles: Set to make next start Friday
    9h ago

Miles will take the mound for the Blue Jays in the team's first game after the All-Star break, at home Friday versus the White Sox, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

The rookie right-hander will be followed in the rotation by Shane Bieber, Trey Yesavage, Dylan Cease and Kevin Gausman. Miles has been impressive this season, especially considering his status as a Rule 5 pick, and over his first 60 big-league innings across 26 appearances (three starts) he's produced a 2.85 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 57:19 K:BB. He hasn't tossed more than 55 pitches in an outing since June 6, however, so his workload could be limited Friday. Miles may head back to the bullpen immediately after this start, depending on the progress of Max Scherzer (back).

Milwaukee needed to free up a spot on its 40-man roster following the acquisitions of Lance McCullers (shoulder) and Colton Gordon from the Astros. The transaction does not alter Zastryzny's timeline, as he's been out all season with shoulder and intercostal injuries. Zimmermann permitted three earned runs in five innings in a bulk-relief appearance earlier this month in his lone outing for St. Louis.

Ohtani (knee) is not listed among the Dodgers' scheduled starting pitchers for this weekend's series against the Yankees, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.

Ohtani has not started a game on the mound in two weeks as he deals with a nagging left knee issue. He had the knee drained Sunday and was expected to receive an injection in the knee over the All-Star break, as well. The Dodgers haven't revealed when Ohtani's first start of the second half as a pitcher will be, but Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register speculates it could be next Wednesday in Philadelphia. Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Gets knee drained Sunday

Ohtani is set to get his left knee drained shortly after the Dodgers' contest Sunday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Ohtani will get his problematic left knee addressed as soon as possible ahead of the All-Star break in order to maximize his healing time. The two-way star is skipping the Midsummer Classic this year in order to get extra rest, as he's been dealing with inflammation in his knee since mid-June. Though the issue resulted in him missing his most recent start as a pitcher, he's expected to retake his regular spot in the rotation following the break. Ohtani doesn't seem to be impacted much by the knee as a hitter, as he went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run Sunday and closed the first half with a home run in four of his final six contests.
