Garcia went 2-for-5 with an RBI on Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Garcia has started both games since being recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, and he looks to have the inside track to a starting job in right field while Ryan O'Hearn (quadricep) is sidelined. Garcia recorded the first RBI of his career with a single in the fourth inning of Wednesday's game to give Pittsburgh a 2-0 lead. Making his second straight start at catcher since Ryan Jeffers (hand) landed on the IL, Caratini launched a Mike Burrows fastball over the fence in right-center field for his second homer of the year. It was Caratini's first multi-hit performance since April 19, while the long ball was his first since April 13. The 32-year-old seemed to wear down quickly to begin the season while seeing regular playing time between catcher and first base, and even after Wednesday's effort his slash line on the season is just .198/.304/.261 through 111 plate appearances. The Twins may give Alex Jackson more action than expected behind the plate while Jeffers is on the shelf in an effort to keep Caratini fresh.

The 25-year-old had given up a total of 13 runs (12 earned) over his last two outings, so this was a positive effort overall, though he's still walking too many batters. On the year, he has a 4.55 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 41:29 K:BB through 57.1 innings across 10 starts. He's winless over his last seven outings, which he'll try to change next week in his projected road start versus the Tigers.

Blue Jays' Louis Varland: Hangs on for sixth save
    6h ago

Varland secured the save Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing one run on two hits and no walks in the ninth inning. He struck out two.

Varland did allow the potential tying run to get aboard, but he was able to hold on by striking out Amed Rosario to end the game. It was the first time the right-hander yielded an earned run since his April 25 outing versus Cleveland, as he's been mostly exceptional since overtaking Jeff Hoffman as Toronto's closer. Varland has permitted only a pair of earned runs through 25.2 innings, posting a 1.17 WHIP and 37:9 K:BB while converting each of his six save opportunities.

Athletics' Aaron Civale: Surrenders three homers
    6h ago

Civale allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Wednesday.

All five runs came via the long ball, as Civale gave up three home runs across the first two innings. He was able to settle in after that, and the Athletics ultimately got him off the hook with an extra-inning win. While he hasn't exactly dominated in most starts, Civale has limited damage -- this was just the third time in 10 starts he's given up three or more runs. He's at a 3.31 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 37:16 K:BB through 51.2 innings this season. Opposing hitters have a .797 OPS against Civale this season, which is just one point shy of his worst mark in a season, so it's safe to say he's gotten a bit lucky. The right-hander is projected to make his next start at home versus the Mariners.

Blue Jays' Trey Yesavage: Outduels Schlittler on Wednesday
    7h ago

Yesavage (2-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing no runs on two hits and zero walks in six innings. He struck out eight.

Yesavage outdueled Yankees right-hander Cam Schlittler, who did pitch six innings of two-run ball Wednesday. Yesavage, on the other hand, fanned a season-high eight, also turning in his third scoreless start of the season. The 22-year-old righty has yet to surrender more than two runs in any of his first five starts this year, and he's recorded at least six punchouts in four consecutive outings. Yesavage will carry an excellent 1.07 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 29:8 K:BB over 25.1 innings into his next scheduled appearance against the Marlins.

Schlittler (6-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out seven.

Schlittler has generally been hard to hit in 2026, but he gave up a season-worst eight knocks Wednesday. The 25-year-old right-hander yielded multiple runs for the first time since his April 12 start in Tampa Bay, though he's now spun at least five frames while yielding one earned run or zero in eight of his 11 outings on the year. Schlittler will take an outstanding 1.50 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 75:13 K:BB over 66 innings into his next scheduled appearance against the Royals.

Brewers' Kyle Harrison: Dominates Cubs with 11 Ks in win
    8h ago

Harrison (5-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Cubs, allowing two hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts across seven shutout innings.

Harrison allowed a leadoff double to Nico Hoerner to begin his night but then set down 15 straight Cubs at one point, cruising to his fifth victory of the season. Harrison has shown flashes of dominance at times in 2026 and generated an elite 41 percent whiff rate against Chicago. It was his second start with double-digit strikeouts this season after he'd accomplished the feat just twice in 37 starts across the previous three campaigns. He entered play Wednesday in the 91st percentile in strikeout rate, and that number is only going to improve after this masterclass. Harrison now owns a 1.77 ERA and 59:14 K:BB across 45.2 innings this season. He's lined up to face the Cardinals at home next week.

Athletics' Hogan Harris: Earns fourth save
    6h ago

Harris walked two and struck out one in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Angels.

One of the walks was intentional to avoid facing Mike Trout. The plan worked, with Harris collecting his fourth save of the season and his third in his last six outings. The southpaw has allowed three runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out nine over seven innings this month, but he's done well enough to work his way up the leverage ladder. He's at a 3.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 26:19 K:BB through 24 innings this season, which isn't the profile of a typical closer, though it may be good enough in a bullpen that's worked with a committee approach. In addition to his four saves, he's added seven holds across 26 appearances.

Padres' Randy Vasquez: Gets no help in loss

Vasquez (5-2) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while failing to strike out a batter over 4.1 innings, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Dodgers.

Vasquez was ambushed on the first pitch of the game, which opposing pitcher Shohei Ohtani took deep. That would end up being the difference, though Vasquez wasn't all that sharp in throwing 44 of 74 pitches for strikes in this outing. It's just the second time all year he's fallen short of the five-inning mark, and it's the fourth time he's given up three or more runs. He has a 2.96 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 45:16 K:BB through 54.2 innings over 10 starts this season. Vasquez will look to bounce back early next week in a projected home start versus the Phillies.

Mlodzinski was back in a starting role after working in bulk relief versus the Rockies last Thursday. Vest allowed a run on two hits across an inning of work and was charged with a blown save in Wednesday's 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Guardians. He struck out one.

The Tigers decided to use regular closer Kenley Jansen in the eighth inning against the top of Cleveland's lineup to protect a 1-0 lead. That left the ninth for Vest, and the veteran allowed the lead to slip away on a pair of hits and an RBI groundout. Vest has struggled this year with a 5.93 ERA across 13.2 innings, which should leave no doubt that Jensen is ahead of him in the bullpen pecking order moving forward.

Junk poured in 62 of his 88 pitches for strikes Wednesday, but he might have been too aggressive in pounding the zone. The 30-year-old right-hander was tagged for a season-worst eight runs, and he's now served up six home runs over four starts in the month of May after giving up only a pair of homers in his previous six outings. This ended a stretch of 12 games without a long ball for Soler, who hit .163 and slugged .256 in that span. For the season, he's batting just .213 with a .729 OPS, nine homers, 30 RBI, 22 runs scored and nine doubles over 46 contests. Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Flashes two-way skills in win

Ohtani (4-2) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four over five shutout innings to earn the win over the Padres on Wednesday. He also went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and a second run scored on offense.

Ohtani gave himself all the run support he needed by homering off Randy Vasquez's first pitch of the game. On the mound, it wasn't Ohtani's best work, but it was still excellent. He threw 53 of 88 pitches for strikes, though he had to navigate some tricky at-bats that ran the pitch count up early. This was his fourth scoreless outing in eight starts as a pitcher, and he only came up short of a quality start due to the brevity of this performance. He's worked to a 0.73 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 54:13 K:BB through 49 innings this season. At the plate, he's hit safely in seven straight games, going 13-for-27 (.481) with seven extra-base hits and 10 RBI in that span, which suggests he's worked his way out of his slump from earlier in May. He's up to a .272/.399/.486 slash line, eight homers, 26 RBI, 33 runs scored, six stolen bases, 11 doubles and a triple over 214 plate appearances. Ohtani's next pitching start is projected to be at home versus the Rockies.

Smith snapped a long homer drought Wednesday, as his last long ball came over a month ago during the April 17 win in Philadelphia. The 30-year-old journeyman has found a home in 2026 as Atlanta's primary designated hitter, but he does routinely sit versus left-handed pitching.
