  • Diamondbacks' Ryan Waldschmidt: Exiting starting lineup

Waldschmidt is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Phillies.

Waldschmidt started each of the previous four contests, but he will begin Wednesday's festivities on the bench. Jordan Lawlar will be in center field and Lars Nootbaar will cover left field in the series finale.

  • Corbin Carroll RF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: In lineup despite sore back

Carroll (back) will start in right field and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo noted after Tuesday's contest that Carroll is dealing with lower-back discomfort. However, Carroll played all nine innings Tuesday and is back in there for Wednesday's afternoon tilt.

  • Jacob Young CF | WAS

Nationals' Jacob Young: Exiting starting lineup

Young is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against Atlanta.

Young picked up two hits, drove in a run and scored a run in Tuesday's game, but he'll exit the lineup for Wednesday's matinee. Dylan Crews will shift over to center field while Young gets a breather.

  • Rays' Victor Mesa: Three hits in return to lineup Tuesday

Mesa went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Mets.

With Jonny DeLuca getting the nod in center field against southpaw Sean Manaea and Ryan Vilade manning first base in place of Jonathan Aranda, Mesa was the last man standing on the right field depth chart. He made only his second start of the season against a same-handed pitcher and came through with a surprisingly productive effort, tying his season high in hits and crossing the plate in the third and eighth innings. It was Mesa's first game action since Aug. 18 due to a hamstring strain, but he may be able to escape getting pigeon-holed as a platoon player if he keeps it up -- over 48 career plate appearances against left-handed pitching, the 24-year-old has a .302/.348/.465 slash line and just a 14.6 percent strikeout rate.

  • Oneil Cruz CF | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Drives in four runs in wild win

Cruz went 4-for-6 with a run scored and four RBI in Tuesday's 13-12 win over the Giants.

All four knocks were singles, but it was still a very productive night for Cruz, who got three of his RBI on two third-inning singles in a frame that saw the Pirates send 15 batters to the plate. The 27-year-old has racked up nine hits in his last four games, and since returning from a fractured hand in mid-August, Cruz has produced a .311/.392/.578 slash line over 12 contests with three homers, three steals, eight runs and 12 RBI.

  • James Wood RF | WAS

Nationals' James Wood: Making return from injured list

The Nationals activated Wood (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Wood was shelved for nearly a month with a left oblique strain, but he's ready to roll after going 2-for-6 with one home run in two rehab contests. The All-Star outfielder has swatted 30 home runs, stolen 17 bases and collected a .928 OPS across 114 games for the Nationals this season. Wood is starting in right field and batting leadoff in Wednesday's game versus Atlanta.

  • Mauricio Dubon LF | ATL

Braves' Mauricio Dubon: Getting breather Wednesday

Dubon is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Nationals.

Dubon will rest during Wednesday's afternoon contest after starting each of the previous 12 games. Ha-Seong Kim will fill in at shortstop for Atlanta in the series finale.

  • Turner Hill LF | SF

Giants' Turner Hill: Bangs out four hits Tuesday

Hill went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Tuesday's wild 13-12 loss to the Pirates.

All four knocks were singles, but it was still an impressive performance from the 27-year-old rookie, who was batting leadoff for the first time in his brief career. Undrafted out of Marietta College in 2022, Hill had a breakout campaign in the high minors for the Giants and has carried that momentum into the majors, slashing .342/.426/.474 in his first 47 MLB plate appearances with five doubles, a steal, six runs and nine RBI. With San Francisco already looking ahead to 2027, Hill figures to get an extended look in September to see if he's part of the team's future in the outfield.

  • Padres' Fernando Tatis: Another two-homer performance

Tatis went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Reds.

Hitting leadoff and playing second base, Tatis took Nick Lodolo deep in the fifth inning to give the Padres a brief 2-1 lead before driving an Emilio Pagan fastball over the right-field fence in the ninth. It's the third two-homer effort from Tatis in the last 13 games, and his early-season power drought is a distant memory -- over his last 25 contests, Tatis boasts a .290/.345/.680 slash line with 11 home runs, five steals, 20 RBI and 21 runs.

  • TJ Friedl CF | CIN

Reds' TJ Friedl: Out of Cincinnati lineup

Friedl is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Padres.

Friedl had made three straight starts in center field against right-handed pitching, but he will exit the lineup Wednesday against San Diego righty Casey Mize. Dane Myers will patrol center field and will bat sixth for the Reds.
