  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Giants' Willy Adames: Out three to four weeks

Adames got a second opinion on his elbow Thursday and is expected to miss three to four weeks, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The plan for Adames is to rest, rehab and get a PRP injection. The shortstop landed on the 10-day injured list Aug. 24 due to a sprain in his left elbow. He faces the possibility of being shut down for the rest of the season, as the Giants are not in the playoff picture. If he returns, it wouldn't be until the final weeks of the regular season.

  • Giants' Luis Hernandez: Managing hip injury

Hernandez hasn't played in a game for Single-A San Jose since Aug. 20 due to a hip injury, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

San Jose hasn't placed Hernandez on its 7-day injured list, but that could be a possibility if he's unable to move past the hip issue within the next few days. The shortstop prospect has already played extensively between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and the California League this season, so the Giants could be motivated to proceed cautiously with him. Since getting elevated to Single-A shortly after the All-Star break, Hernandez is hitting just .231/.276/.319 with a 29.6 percent strikeout rate over 98 plate appearances, but the fact that the Giants deemed him capable of playing at a full-season affiliate as a 17-year-old is more notable than his lack of production.

  • Kaeden Kent SS | SF

Giants' Kaeden Kent: Returns from IL on Wednesday

High-A Eugene reinstated Kent (undisclosed) from the 7-day injured list Wednesday, and he went 0-for-5 in Wednesday's 11-6 loss to Everett.

Kent was placed on High-A Hudson Valley's 7-day injured list July 6 before being traded to the Giants on Aug. 3. The 22-year-old shortstop returned to action for Eugene, though he was unable to get on base. Across 360 plate appearances in High-A this season, he's slashing .303/.358/.437 with 56 runs scored, 43 RBI, 20 stolen bases and six long balls.

  • Aiva Arquette SS | MIA

Marlins' Aiva Arquette: Shining at Double-A since return

Arquette (thumb) is slashing .364/.404/.614 with three home runs and two stolen bases in 10 games for Double-A Pensacola since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Aug. 11.

Arquette made his return to action for Pensacola after missing just under six weeks due to a left thumb injury. The 22-year-old shortstop hasn't needed any time to shake off rust since being activated and is now holding down a .798 OPS with 10 home runs and nine stolen bases in 37 total games at Double-A this season.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Strong showing in return

Tovar went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a walk and a stolen base Wednesday against the Nationals.

Tovar returned from a one-game absence caused by a wrist issue, and he showed no ill effects. He stole his sixth base of the season in the sixth inning after reaching base on a free pass, and he followed that up with a two-run single two frames later. Tovar has had a very poor season, though he has hit .315 across 54 at-bats in August.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Three hits in Wednesday's win

De La Cruz went 3-for-6 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 10-9 win over the Giants.

The star shortstop was one of three Reds to put together three-hit days, but most of the team's offense came in a stunning ninth-inning rally that saw Cincinnati erase a 9-3 deficit. De La Cruz is up to 23 steals on the season but has only three in August, and on the month he's batting just .212 (21-for-99) with five doubles, three homers, 10 RBI and 15 runs over 25 contests.

  • Joseph Ortiz SS | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Sitting after 12 straight starts

Ortiz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Milwaukee will go with Cooper Pratt and David Hamilton as its starters on the left side of the infield after Ortiz had been included in the lineup at either shortstop or third base in each of the previous 12 games. Ortiz produced a sizzling .293/.367/.488 slash line with two home runs, one steal, nine RBI and nine runs during that stretch, and the Brewers should continue to find ways to keep him in the starting nine while he's wielding a hot bat. Expect Ortiz to remain a regular in the lineup against left-handed pitching, while manager Pat Murphy will likely lean on a three-man rotation of Ortiz, Pratt and Hamilton for two spots in the lineup versus righties.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Returning to Colorado lineup

Tovar (wrist) will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's contest versus the Nationals.

Tovar tweaked his left wrist during Monday's game and then didn't start Tuesday, but it will be just a one-game absence from the lineup for the shortstop. The 25-year-old has shown signs of life offensively in August, slashing .300/.351/.480 with a pair of long balls.

  • Jared Triolo SS | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Heading to bench Wednesday

Triolo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Triolo will hit the bench for the first time since Aug. 12, breaking a streak of 12 consecutive starts at either third base or shortstop. Though he posted a weak .610 OPS during that 12-game stretch, Triolo could nonetheless continue to maintain steady playing time due to the defensive upgrade he provides at third base over Nick Gonzales, who has been seeing more playing time at second base and designated hitter of late.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Cracks solo homer Tuesday

Lindor went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during the Mets' 3-2 extra-inning win over the Brewers on Tuesday.

Tuesday was a low-scoring affair, but Lindor finally put the Mets on the board in the fifth inning with a solo long ball off southpaw Kyle Harrison. It was Lindor's fifth home run since July 31 and 13th of the year, and he'll need to show off more of that power over the next few weeks in order to reach the 20-homer threshold for a sixth consecutive year and for the ninth time in his major-league career. Lindor has a .756 OPS with three steals, 33 RBI and 25 extra-base hits over 327 plate appearances this season.
