Nationals' Andres Chaparro: Homers off bench Tuesday
Chaparro went 1-for-1 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Padres.
Chaparro homered off the bench in the eighth inning. He's made the most of his opportunities lately, hitting safely in nine of his last 11 games while going 12-for-35 (.343) with four extra-base hits in that span. For the season, he's batting .259 with an .881 OPS, 10 homers, 35 RBI, 31 runs scored, 12 doubles and no stolen bases over 71 contests. Chaparro is currently in a battle for playing time at first base and designated hitter that also includes Yohandy Morales and Abimelec Ortiz.

Adael Amador 2B | COL
Rockies' Adael Amador: Slugs third homer
Amador went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Yankees.
Amador drew his sixth consecutive start since being recalled to begin September. This was his second home run in that span, and he's also gone 8-for-22 with four RBI and five runs scored. Amador could split time at second base with Connor Norby, though he's made the case for consistent playing time with his showing to this point.

Jacob Webb RP | CHC
Cubs' Jacob Webb: Blows another save
Webb blew the save Tuesday against the Brewers, giving up two runs on two hits and no walks while striking out one over one inning.
The right-hander was in great shape to pick up his 10th save of the season after retiring the first two batters of the ninth on seven pitches, but Christian Yelich singled and Jackson Chourio homered with two outs to erase the two-run advantage. Webb has now blown his last three save chances and has surrendered multiple runs in four of his past six appearances. He's gone 9-for-16 in save opportunities this season, and the recent struggles likely don't leave him with much stability as Chicago's closer.

Yohandy Morales 1B | WAS
Nationals' Yohandy Morales: Goes yard Tuesday
Morales went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Nationals.
This was Morales' second homer in six games to begin his big-league career. He's also logged two doubles while going 6-for-16 so far. The first baseman is filling a part-time role while battling Abimelec Ortiz and Andres Chaparro for playing time between first base and designated hitter.

Riley Cornelio RP | WAS
Nationals' Riley Cornelio: Strong in start
Cornelio struck out four over three perfect innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday.
Cornelio worked the opening part of this bullpen game for the Nationals, but he did his job well in getting through the Padres' order cleanly on 36 pitches (24 strikes). He has functioned primarily as a long reliever this season, posting a 5.26 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 27:21 K:BB over 25.2 innings across 13 games. Cornelio's strong performance isn't likely to lead to more starts -- the Nationals have enough off days ahead to get by with a four-man rotation until Connelly Early (elbow) comes off the injured list for his team debut.
-
Adrian Morejon RP | SD
Padres' Adrian Morejon: Snags third save
Morejon struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Nationals.
Both Mason Miller and Morejon had pitched the last two days. Miller was given rest, while Morejon retired the side on seven pitches to convert his third save this season. September has been a little bumpy for Morejon so far -- he's allowed five runs (four earned) over 4.2 innings this month. He's at a 2.86 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 96:24 K:BB through 78.2 innings while adding 23 holds and five blown saves in a setup role.

Casey Mize SP | SD
Padres' Casey Mize: Takes no-decision Tuesday
Mize allowed three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Nationals on Tuesday.
Mize came away without a win for the fourth outing in a row. He's allowed 18 runs (13 earned) over 17.1 innings in that span, though his seven strikeouts Tuesday were his most in a start since he was traded to the Padres. The right-hander has a 3.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 107:29 K:BB through 119.1 innings over 23 starts between San Diego and Detroit this season. He's projected to make his next start at Colorado.

Zak Kent RP | WAS
Nationals' Zak Kent: Back in minors
The Nationals optioned Kent to Triple-A Rochester after Tuesday's game against the Padres.
Kent was recalled from Triple-A earlier in the day, and the Nationals will send him back to the minors immediately after he pitched two shutout innings during Tuesday's loss. The 28-year-old now owns a 5.51 ERA through 16.1 MLB innings this year and will likely play out the rest of the season with Rochester.

Jacob Misiorowski SP | MIL
Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski: Punches out nine in no-decision
Misiorowski struck out nine but did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 6.1 innings against the Cubs.
The flamethrowing righty surrendered a run on two singles and a double during the opening frame but locked in from there, generating 16 whiffs and tossing 64 of 93 total pitches for strikes in his 17th quality start of the campaign. It was a strong rebound from Misiorowski after he surrendered five runs to the Cubs during his previous start last week, while his nine strikeouts ended a run of four consecutive starts with six or fewer Ks.

Jackson Chourio LF | MIL
Brewers' Jackson Chourio: Clubs game-tying homer
Chourio went 4-for-5 with a double, a two-run homer and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 4-3, extra-inning victory over the Cubs.
The 22-year-old outfielder came to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and launched a game-tying, two-run home run off Jacob Webb to erase a 3-1 deficit and force a 10th frame. It's the third four-hit performance in Chourio's past 13 contests, and he's batting .356 (21-for-59) with three doubles, five long balls, three steals, 13 RBI and 17 runs during that stretch. On the season he has an .827 OPS with 22 homers, 16 stolen bases, 63 RBI and 81 runs through 111 games.
