Zac Gallen SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Returning from IL, starting Wednesday
Gallen (elbow) will return from the 60-day injured list and start Wednesday's game against the Royals, Jody Jackson of DBacks.tv reports.
Wednesday will mark Gallen's first appearance of the second half, as the 31-year-old has been on the shelf since July 12 due to right elbow inflammation. He pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in a rehab game at Triple-A Reno on Aug. 30 before building up to four innings and 60 pitches during a sim game Friday. Rather than waiting for Gallen to get fully stretched back out, the Diamondbacks will instead have him make what will likely be an abbreviated start Wednesday before turning the ball over to right-hander Michael Soroka (shoulder), who will also be activated from the IL to pitch in the series finale in Kansas City.

Mike Soroka SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Michael Soroka: Returning from IL on Wednesday
The Diamondbacks will reinstate Soroka (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list and have pitch Wednesday against the Royals in Kansas City, Jody Jackson of DBacks.tv reports.
Soroka will return to Arizona's pitching staff after a near-minimum-length stay on the IL due to right shoulder inflammation. The 29-year-old built up to four innings and 59 pitches during a simulated game Friday, so because he's not completely stretched out, the Diamondbacks will have Soroka work in a piggyback arrangement with Zac Gallen (elbow), who will start Wednesday but will be in line for an abbreviated outing as he also returns from the IL. Soroka could resume working as a traditional starter for Arizona following Wednesday's outing.

David Peterson SP | CHC
Cubs' David Peterson: Allows one run in no-decision
Peterson allowed one run on six hits across 4.1 innings and did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 4-3, 10-inning loss to the Brewers. He walked three and struck out four.
Peterson did well in limiting a talented Milwaukee lineup to just one run, but he certainly dealt with plenty of baserunners, which explains why he was pulled after 4.1 innings and 83 pitches. It was still a bounceback effort for the lefty, who was tagged for six runs in just 3.2 innings his last time out against these same Brewers. Peterson will now carry a 5.28 ERA into his next scheduled start Monday against Atlanta, which projects as a very tough matchup for the starter and one that might best be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Lake Bachar SP | PIT
Pirates' Lake Bachar: Starting bullpen game Wednesday
Bachar will start Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Dominic Campbell of SI.com reports.
Pittsburgh is going to rely on its bullpen to get through Wednesday's contest, and Bachar will begin the game on the mound for what will be his ninth start of the season. The 31-year-old righty has tossed at least two innings in eight of his 11 appearances since the beginning of August, so he'll likely be called upon to provide more length than the typical opening pitcher.

Hunter Goodman C | COL
Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Smacks late homer Tuesday
Goodman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Yankees.
The Rockies' bats were held in check by Yankees ace Cam Schlittler, but Goodman reduced the deficit to two runs by taking Tim Hill deep for a two-run homer in the ninth inning. It was Goodman's first home run since Aug. 26 and 37th of the season, tied with Matt Olson for fifth in the majors. Goodman has an .848 OPS with five steals, 78 RBI and 56 extra-base hits over 513 plate appearances this season.

Gabriel Hughes SP | COL
Rockies' Gabriel Hughes: Still winless in 2026
Hughes (0-7) took the loss against the Yankees on Tuesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out six across five innings. He did not issue a walk.
It was a bit of a tough-luck loss for Hughes, especially with the Yankees scoring an unearned run in the first inning due to fielding and throwing errors by Jake McCarthy. Hughes kept the Yankees off the board over the next three innings before yielding a run in the fifth, and although the Rockies scored two late runs in the ninth, it wasn't enough for the 25-year-old right-hander to avoid the loss. He's allowed one earned run in each of his last two starts and has a 5.81 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 57.1 innings since making his major-league debut July 3. Hughes will look to secure his first big-league win in his next start, tentatively slated for this weekend on the road against the Tigers.

Jared Serna 2B | MIA
Marlins' Jared Serna: Cracks two doubles Tuesday
Serna went 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored during Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Mets.
Sean Manaea kept the Marlins hitless and scoreless through five innings, but Serna helped turn things around with an RBI double in the sixth inning. He added another double in the seventh for the first multi-hit game of his major-league career, and he's 3-for-8 with two RBI and two runs scored since making his big-league debut Sept. 1. Serna will continue to see playing time for as long as Xavier Edwards (thumb) is on the IL.

Sandy Alcantara SP | MIA
Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Gives up three homers in loss
Alcantara (13-10) took the loss against the Mets on Tuesday, allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out one batter in 4.1 innings.
Alcantara put the Marlins in a large hole early, with four of the six runs he gave up through the first three innings coming on home runs from Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto and Brett Baty. It's the fourth time this season (and second time since the All-Star break) that Alcantara has given up three home runs in a start, and this marks the fourth time this year that he's given up at least seven earned runs in an outing. He has an 0-4 record over his last six starts with a 4.95 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 36.1 innings. Alcantara will look to get back on track next week against the Diamondbacks.

Kodai Senga RP | NYM
Mets' Kodai Senga: Collects seventh save
Senga earned the save in Tuesday's 7-5 win over Miami, allowing one run on two hits while striking out two batters in the ninth inning.
Senga was brought out for the ninth inning to protect the Mets' three-run lead. He gave up a run on back-to-back doubles but rebounded by striking out the last two batters to secure the win for the Mets. Senga has converted each of his last seven save chances, and he appears to be the Mets' preferred closer for as long as Devin Williams (shoulder) is on the IL.

Brett Baty 3B | NYM
Mets' Brett Baty: Drives in two runs Tuesday
Baty went 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly and a solo home run during the Mets' 7-5 win over the Marlins on Tuesday.
Baty was responsible for two of the seven runs the Mets scored against Sandy Alcantara, with Baty smacking a solo homer in the third inning before bringing Jacob Young home on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Baty has driven in at least one run in four of his last five games, going 5-for-13 with three doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and three runs scored in that span.
