Flacco (neck) is currently throwing and expects to be ready for contact in mid-September, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

The 35-year-old joined the Jets on a one-year, $1.5 million deal this week, but it doesn't appear he'll be ready to go for the season opener. It's not a major surprise since Flacco underwent a disc repair procedure in early April, and it's about on par with his initial recovery timeline. He's poised to serve as the top backup to Sam Darnold once healthy, but David Fales and rookie James Morgan should also compete for the role in training camp for Week 1.
