Status: Jones is out, Green is doubtful
For the second week in a row, Fantasy owners in win-or-go-home situations have to work around Julio Jones and A.J. Green being absent. Jones is dealing with a toe injury, Green with a hamstring.
The Falcons have found ways to make up for Jones' departure -- last week Taylor Gabriel and Aldrick Robinson led the charge. This week Mohamed Sanu should return and play mostly in the slot with Gabriel and Robinson along the outside. All three have a chance at some success -- it's not like the Niners boast a challenging pass defense -- but Gabriel's speed gives him the most upside of the three.
The Bengals have been getting by without Green for a while -- Brandon LaFell and Tyler Boyd are pass catchers to know about. Their matchup isn't so hot. The Steelers have done a nice job limiting yardage and keeping receivers out of the end zone (just eight scores all season given up).
Many of the best replacements at receiver for either of these guys are on other teams. Wideouts who can get snagged off the waiver wire in more than half of CBS Sports leagues include:
Dontrelle Inman, SD (49 percent owned)
Adam Thielen, MIN (23 percent owned)
Marqise Lee, JAC (15 percent owned)
J.J. Nelson, ARI (36 percent owned)
Robby Anderson, NYJ (5 percent owned)
All five, along with Gabriel (who is already 84 percent owned), are worth taking a chance on if you're without Jones or Green.
Status: Questionable
Bad: Rodgers didn't practice all week because of a calf injury. Worse: He's playing on the road against a division rival. Worst: The forecast for Chicago on Sunday is extremely cold temperatures -- we're talking a high of zero degrees -- along with moderate winds.
So it's pretty much the worst possible trifecta you could ask for for Rodgers, who insists he will start against the Bears. Fantasy owners should still prepare to start Rodgers, but it would be wise to carry a backup in case he's made inactive. If you have Rodgers along with another good starting-caliber quarterback, you should strongly consider the other quarterback. Unfortunately, expectations simply can't be high for Rodgers.
Status: not on injury report
Luck was on the practice report all week with a shoulder injury but wasn't on the final injury report.
The same can't be said for his starting left guard, starting right tackle and backup right tackle -- they're all out. So is starting receiver Donte Moncrief (hamstring), who will miss his sixth game of the season. It's shaping up to be a very difficult start for Luck, who figures to be under pressure all game long from the Vikings defensive line. Replacing him with Tyrod Taylor, Joe Flacco or Cam Newton (and maybe even Trevor Siemian) should be strongly considered.
Status: not on injury report
The Saints are getting their big rookie receiver back -- just in time for a date with cornerback Patrick Peterson and the Cardinals. Thomas missed last week with a foot injury but will return in a matchup where the Saints will likely throw at least 35 times. In theory that should mean good numbers for Thomas, but the uncertainty of who Peterson will line up against combined with Thomas' recent stretch of stinky performances (under 70 yards with no touchdowns in three of his last four) make him a risky Fantasy option.
Status: Out
Gordon's hip and knee kept him out all week and will keep him out of the Bolts' divisional matchup versus Oakland, opening the door for Kenneth Farrow and Ronnie Hillman to rep for him.
Farrow should start and is seemingly more prepared to play than Hillman, who's only been with the Chargers for a month. The matchup against the Raiders is mouth watering, so using Farrow as a matchup-based starter has plenty of appeal. He's still available in 46 percent of CBS Sports leagues.
Status: Questionable
The week started with Forte admitting to a torn meniscus. The week ended with Forte practicing twice and seemingly ready to play on Saturday against the Dolphins.
If Forte plays, expect him and Bilal Powell to split the workload against a Dolphins run defense that's bent against the run over its last six games. Not that it will be an even split -- ESPN reported Friday that Powell still should "get most of the work" even if Forte is active. Powell would be a good No. 2 running back or flex, especially in PPR leagues.
If Forte is inactive (and seriously, Jets, why activate Forte if he's not going to play a lot anyway?!) then Powell has a big workload ahead against the Dolphins. It wouldn't be a shock to see Powell finish as a top-12 running back in that case.
