Jhonatan Solano: Elects free agency
Solano (elbow) rejected an outright assignment to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday and elected to become a free agent, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.
Solano, who didn't appear in a game in 2018 due to an elbow injury, will hit the open market after spending the past 12 seasons with the Nationals. The 33-year-old has appeared in just 43 major-league games across parts of three different seasons (most recently in 2015), slashing .184/.222/.301 over that stretch. He figures to serve as organizational catching depth wherever he winds up in 2019.

Nationals' Jhonatan Solano: Transferred to 60-day DL
Solano (elbow) was moved to the 60-day disabled list Monday, Byron Kerr of MASN Sports reports.
Solano originally hit the 10-day DL with bone spurs in his right elbow. He was moved to the 60-day DL in order to make room on the active roster for Jeremy Hellickson. Solano will now be ineligible to return before mid-June.

It's unclear when the injury arose, but it comes at a convenient time, as Miguel Montero was able to return from the paternity list in a corresponding move. It's unclear how long Solano will be sidelined with this issue.

Nationals' Jhonatan Solano: Contract selected from Triple-A
Solano's contract was purchased from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.
Miguel Montero was placed on the paternity list, so the Nationals needed another healthy catcher to back up Saturday's starter, Pedro Severino. Solano is a 32-year-old journeyman with 108 MLB plate appearances under his belt, hitting .184 in that limited work. He spent all of 2017 at Triple-A, hitting .241/.287/.338, so there's not much to see here from a fantasy perspective. He'll likely be sent back down when Montero rejoins the team.

Nationals' Jhonatan Solano: Reassigned to minor-league camp
Solano was reassigned to the Nationals' minor-league camp Wednesday, MLB.com's Jamal Collier reports.
Solano's chances of cracking the Nationals' Opening Day roster improved following the release of Derek Norris earlier in the spring, but since he's still behind Matt Wieters and Jose Lobaton in the pecking order at catcher, he probably needed an injury to either of those two players in order to have a more realistic shot. The 31-year-old is expected to head to Triple-A Syracuse to begin the 2017 campaign.

Solano went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBI in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.
After spending last year in the Marlins' organization, Solano returned to the Nats in the offseason and will provide some depth at catcher at Triple-A. Injuries could allow him to see some big league action, but the 31-year-old can't be expected to make any kind of fantasy impact if he does.

Solano was unimpressive with Triple-A Syracuse in 2016, batting just .225 in 52 games. This will likely keep him in an organizational depth role again in 2017.
