Tigers' Trayce Thompson: Finds work in Detroit organization
Thompson signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Thursday.
Thompson elected free agency earlier this month after spending the first month of the season in the Padres organization. He appeared in six games at the big-league level for the Padres but otherwise functioned as organizational outfield depth at Triple-A El Paso, where he slashed an impressive .316/.385/.860 across 65 plate appearances. Thompson is set to report to Triple-A Toledo with his new organization, but he'll likely have a clearer path to getting an extended look in the majors with Detroit than he had in San Diego.... Trayce Thompson: Elects free agency
Thompson cleared waivers and elected free agency Saturday.
Thompson was designated for assignment by the Padres on Tuesday, and he'll choose to become a free agent rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A. He went 1-for-14 with a run, two RBI, two steals and seven strikeouts over six games with San Diego this year.... See More ... See Less
Padres' Trayce Thompson: DFA'd by San Diego
Thompson was designated for assignment by the Padres on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old joined the big-league club April 28 and will lose his spot on the 40-man roster with Wil Myers (thumb) returning from the injured list. Thompson went 1-for-14 with two RBI, a run and seven strikeouts during his brief time in the majors.... See More ... See Less
Padres' Trayce Thompson: Knocks in two in season debut
Thompson went 1-for-3 with a single, a walk and two RBI in a 7-3 victory versus Pittsburgh on Friday.
Thompson was called up to San Diego on Thursday after Wil Myers (thumb) hit the 10-day injured list, and the former came through with a two-run single in the sixth inning during his first game with the club. Thompson started the contest in left field before shifting over to right later on, and he could see some time at all three outfield spots while Myers is out. Thompson was tearing up Triple-A pitching before his call-up, slashing .316/.385/.860 with nine homers over 65 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less
Padres' Trayce Thompson: Called up from Triple-A
The Padres selected Thompson's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.
He previously joined the Padres' taxi squad Wednesday after Wil Myers (thumb) exited Tuesday's win over the Reds with an injury, but Thompson will now make the jump to the 28-man active roster after Myers was placed on the 10-day injured list ahead of Thursday's series finale. The lefty-hitting Matt Beaty will pick up a second straight start in right field Thursday and is likely to serve as Myers' primary replacement, though the righty-hitting Thompson could be viewed as a short-side platoon option at the position. Prior to his promotion, the 31-year-old Thompson slashed .316./385/.860 with nine home runs and a stolen base across 65 plate appearances at El Paso.... See More ... See Less
Padres' Trayce Thompson: Moved to taxi squad
Thompson was pulled from the lineup during Triple-A El Paso's game Wednesday and is scheduled to join the Padres as part of the taxi squad in Cincinnati, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Though nothing official has been announced, Acee suggests that Thompson is being summoned to take the roster spot of Wil Myers, who could be headed to the IL with a thumb injury. The move would require further shifting by the team, however, as Thompson is not currently on the 40-man roster. Thompson has had limited successes in the majors but is crushing Triple-A pitching this season, batting .316 with nine homers and 17 RBI over 57 at-bats.... See More ... See Less

Thompson went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in a loss to Minnesota on Tuesday.
After going deep for the first time this season in his last game, Thompson slammed a solo shot in his first at-bat Tuesday. The contest was otherwise a frustrating one for the outfielder -- he struck out three times in his final four at-bats -- but he has at least shown some potential for production with two homers and two stolen bases across only 11 plate appearances on the campaign. Thompson slammed 21 long balls and swiped three bags in 92 games at the Triple-A level prior to being called up last week.... See More ... See Less

Thompson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Brewers.

The 30-year-old outfielder spent 2019 in the minors and then didn't play at all in 2020 with the minor-league schedule canceled.
