The first four batters in the frame reached safely against the right-hander before Tristan Gray cleared the bases with a double. However, the Orioles rallied en route to an eventual 8-6 victory, sparing Baz the loss in his team debut. Baz was traded to Baltimore after posting a 4.87 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP and 176:64 K:BB across 31 starts (166.1 innings) with Tampa Bay last season. He's currently lined up to face the Pirates on the road in his next outing.

Baz was traded to Baltimore this offseason after delivering a 4.87 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP and a 176:64 K:BB across 166.1 innings in 2025 at Tampa Bay. Now, the talented 26-year-old right-hander has a long-term home with the Orioles, where he'll look to improve upon his 2025 campaign. He's slated to make his season debut Sunday against the Twins.

Baz had an up-and-down 2025 campaign in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery, finishing with a 4.87 ERA and 176:64 K:BB across 166.1 innings covering 31 starts. Baz had his longest start since he went seven innings July 1. He's now at a 4.93 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 140:50 K:BB through 135 innings across 24 starts. He's already exceeded the 118.2 innings he had across all levels in 2024, so it's possible the 26-year-old is wearing down a bit. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Yankees.

The eight hits allowed were one shy of a season worst, and the 26-year-old right-hander walked multiple batters in his fifth straight start. Baz's impressive run to open the campaign is becoming a distant memory at this point -- he posted a 2.45 ERA through April 25 -- and he'll carry a mediocre 4.79 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 124:46 K:BB through 124 frames into a scheduled road matchup against the Angels in Anaheim.

Baz was excellent through four innings, giving up zero runs and allowing just three baserunners. The right-hander was struck by a 111.2 mph comebacker off the bat of Roman Anthony in the bottom of the fourth however, and he then gave up a run in the fifth. Baz still entered the sixth frame in line for a victory, but he allowed the first two batters he faced in that inning to reach base (on a walk and a hit-by-pitch), and both came around to score after his departure. He's been mediocre but consistent in his past three outings, giving up exactly three runs while completing between 5.0 and 5.2 frames in each start. Baz's numbers on the campaign -- including a 4.97 ERA and 1.34 WHIP -- are also mediocre, though he's managed to compile a 5-3 record. He'll look to improve upon that mark in his next start, which lines up to be a tough road test against the Mets.

After posting a 2.45 ERA through his first five appearances in 2025, Baz should have a prime opportunity to string together quality outings his next time out versus a Rangers team that has a miserable .602 OPS in the month of May.
