  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Recalled from Triple-A

The Diamondbacks recalled Diaz from Triple-A Reno on Thursday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Diaz had four starts for the Diamondbacks in July, and he notched a quality start in the first two. In the third game he surrendered seven earned runs across three innings, but he bounced back in his final outing July 28 by allowing just one hit in five scoreless frames before returning to Triple-A. The right-hander worked out of the bullpen in his last two outings with Reno and should serve as a long reliever while up with the big club.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Returns from minor-league IL

Diaz (finger) was reinstated from Triple-A Reno's 7-day injured list Thursday and struck out six while allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over five innings in his return to the club's rotation.

Diaz was placed on Reno's IL on Aug. 7 with a blister on his right hand but missed just over a week of action before making his return. The 24-year-old righty acquitted himself well in four starts with the big club earlier this season, but he could struggle to get another look with the Diamondbacks in 2024 if all of Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Brandon Pfaadt, Eduardo Rodriguez, Jordan Montgomery and Ryne Nelson are all able to stay healthy down the stretch.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Goes on Triple-A IL

Diaz was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Reno on Thursday due to a blister on his right hand, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Diaz is expected to miss just one start with the issue. The young right-hander held a solid 4.05 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB in 20 innings covering three starts for Arizona last month, but with Eduardo Rodriguez back and Merrill Kelly's (shoulder) return imminent, Diaz probably wasn't going to be back in the majors anytime soon even if he was healthy.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Heads back to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Diaz to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Diaz had three good starts at home and one poor start on the road during his first taste of the big leagues. While the overall impression was a favorable one, Diaz will head back to Reno for now. It's not clear yet how the Diamondbacks plan to fill Diaz's spot in the rotation this weekend, as Merrill Kelly (shoulder) and Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) won't be ready to return from the 60-day injured list.

  • Diamondbacks' Yilber Diaz: Bounces back with strong outing

Diaz did not factor into the decision in Sunday's loss to the Pirates. He did not allow a run and gave up one hit while walking four and striking out seven over five innings.

The only hit allowed by Diaz was a leadoff single from Andrew McCutchen to begin the game. He had to work around some traffic on the bases in the first and third innings but otherwise put together a fantastic bounce-back outing after getting shelled in his prior start against the Royals. Diaz punched out a career-high seven batters, which included striking out the side in the fourth inning, after only racking up seven strikeouts in his first three career starts. He now owns a 4.05 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB in 20 innings so far and lines up for a rematch against the Pirates on the road over the weekend.
