Yankees' Cody Poteet: Sent back to SWB
The Yankees optioned Poteet to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
Poteet made one appearance during his three-day stint in the majors, giving up one earned run across 3.1 innings Wednesday against Baltimore. Rather than keeping him in the bullpen to finish the regular season, the Yankees will instead send him back out to the minors in favor of Will Warren.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Summoned from minors
The Yankees recalled Poteet from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
He'll rejoin the Yankees ahead of Wednesday's game against the Orioles and provide some length out of the bullpen behind Marcus Stroman, who will be thrust back into the rotation after the club's original scheduled starter, Nestor Cortes, landed on the injured list with a left elbow flexor strain. Poteet hasn't pitched for the Yankees since June 12, but he's back to full health after a two-month absence due to a triceps strain. He resumed pitching in the minors Aug. 20 and accrued a 2.29 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 19.2 innings over his final six appearances between Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Somerset before their seasons recently ended.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Joining MLB club in Bronx
Poteet is expected to join the Yankees and could be formally recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
Nestor Cortes had been scheduled to start Wednesday, but after being sent in for an MRI on his elbow, he now appears unlikely to be available. Poteet will be a candidate to pitch in some capacity Wednesday if he's recalled, though the Yankees could prefer to keep him on hand as a member of the taxi squad while they await more information on Cortes' injury. Poteet has made four starts for the Yankees this season, collecting a 2.14 ERA and 13:7 K:BB over 21 innings.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Activated and optioned
The Yankees activated Poteet (triceps) from the 60-day injured list Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Poteet is over the triceps injury that's kept him out since mid-June, but the Yankees have elected to keep him at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre where he had been on a rehab assignment. The 30-year-old has allowed four runs over 10.1 rehab innings with SWB.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Doing well through four rehab games
Poteet (triceps) has posted a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 15:2 K:BB over 12 innings through four minor-league rehab appearances.
Poteet's first three rehab outings came with Double-A Somerset before he transitioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for his most recent appearance Sept. 5. The righty reliever's longest outing thus far has been 3.2 frames, and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has said that the team sees Poteet as a potential depth piece down the stretch. While Poteet appears to be sufficiently ramped up for a return, it's not yet clear when the Yankees plan to activate him.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Cleared for rehab assignment
Poteet (triceps) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset on Tuesday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Poteet has been shelved since mid-June with a right triceps strain and is finally ready to test things out in a game setting. The right-hander figures to require a handful of rehab appearances and it's not clear whether the plan is to stretch him back out to start or prepare him for a bullpen role.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Hurls live batting-practice session
Poteet (tricep) threw 25 pitches in a live batting practice session Saturday, MLB.com reports.
Poteet has now faced hitters on two occasions as he looks to return from the right tricep strain that has kept him on the shelf since mid-June. The righty reliever is on the 60-day injured list and is eligible to be activated Aug. 17, but he's likely tracking toward a return at some point after that, as he'll need to pitch in at least a couple minor-league contests beforehand. Assuming he doesn't have any setbacks, a return to the Yankees by the end of August seems probable, but he'll likely have to settle for a bullpen role after previously starting in all four of his appearances for the big club.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Moved to 60-day IL
The Yankees transferred Poteet (triceps) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.
A right tricep strain has kept Poteet on the injured list since mid-June, and his move to the 60-day injured list will ensure he remains out until at least Aug. 17. The 30-year-old righty began throwing bullpen sessions last week, though it remains unclear how close he is to facing live hitters and eventually beginning a rehab assignment. His spot on the 40-man roster will be given to Nick Burdi, who was reinstated from the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Throwing bullpen Thursday
Poteet (tricep) said Wednesday that he will throw his second full bullpen session Thursday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Poteet had not been cleared to throw full bullpen sessions as of Monday, though he seems to have turned a corner in his rehab and is now slated to throw roughly 20-to-25 pitches in what will be his second mound session. The 29-year-old posted a 2.14 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 21 innings over four starts prior to suffering a tricep strain in June, though it's possible the Yankees move him into their bullpen once he returns from the IL.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Not cleared for full side sessions
Poteet (tricep) threw lightly from a mound Friday but has yet to be cleared for full bullpen sessions, MLB.com reports.
Though he isn't moving quickly through his throwing program after being cleared to start playing catch just over two weeks ago, Poteet has thus far avoided any setbacks with his right tricep strain. He made four starts for the Yankees before landing on the 15-day injured list June 18, but he'll likely have to settle for a bullpen role once he's activated, if New York doesn't choose to option him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre instead.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Resumes throwing
Poteet (triceps) has resumed his throwing program but has not yet progressed to throwing off a mound, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Poteet landed on the IL on June 18 due to a right triceps strain. It's an encouraging sign that the 29-year-old righty has gotten back to throwing, though he will likely remain without a clear return timeline until he's able to throw a few bullpen sessions. The return of Gerrit Cole also means there's no guarantee Poteet remains in the majors upon being activated.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Out with strained triceps
The Yankees placed Poteet on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right triceps strain, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Poteet will be shut down from throwing for up to two weeks before being re-evaluated. He's fared well in four starts with the Yankees this season, posting a 2.14 ERA and 13:7 K:BB over 21 innings. However, with Gerrit Cole (elbow) due back this week, Poteet's future role was already looking uncertain.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Goes 5.1 frames in victory
Poteet (3-0) earned the win over Kansas City on Wednesday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two batters over 5.1 innings.
Poteet was staked to a 6-0 lead after one inning and cruised through five scoreless frames before the Royals scored their first two runs in the sixth. The right-hander had plenty of cushion at that point and ended up with his third victory across four starts. Poteet has completed six innings just once in those outings, but he's put up a great 2.14 ERA and 1.05 WHIP despite a not-so-great 13:7 K:BB over 21 innings.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Inefficient in no-decision
Poteet came away with a no-decision in Friday's 2-1 extra-innings loss to the Dodgers, allowing two hits and three walks over 4.2 scoreless innings. He struck out one.
The 29-year-old right-hander kept a dangerous offense off the board, but he needed 84 pitches (50 strikes) to record only 14 outs, and the Yankees' bullpen eventually faltered in the 11th inning. Poteet has a 1.72 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB through 15.2 innings over his three big-league starts this season, but with Gerrit Cole (elbow) set to make his second rehab start Sunday, Poteet's time in the New York rotation is running short. He should make at least one more start, which lines up to come on the road next week in Kansas City.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Getting second start
Poteet is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Dodgers at Yankee Stadium.
The right-hander will be making his third start of the season for the Yankees and his second straight turn through the rotation. He struck out six over five innings while allowing three runs (two earned) in a winning effort against the Giants last Saturday following his call-up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Unless the Yankees get hit by another injury in their rotation, Poteet's stay in the majors will likely come to an end once Gerrit Cole (elbow) makes his expected return from the 60-day injured list later this month.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Grabs win Saturday
Poteet (2-0) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings to earn the win over the Giants on Saturday.
Poteet's previous appearance this season came as the 27th man in a doubleheader before he was returned to the minors. He dealt with a finger blister before he was called up again, but he was sharp Saturday, throwing 47 of 78 pitches for strikes. Poteet is an option to replace Clarke Schmidt (lat) in the rotation moving forward, and this start bodes well for Poteet's chances of sticking in a starting role. He's tentatively projected for a tougher home start versus the Dodgers next week.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Activated, called up ahead of start
Poteet (finger) was activated from the minor-league 7-day injured list and called up to start Saturday's contest versus the Giants.
Poteet is officially set to make his second major-league start of the season Saturday, replacing Clarke Schmidt (lat) on the mound for the Yankees. The right-handed Poteet last pitched with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 19, allowing three runs over four innings before missing his last outing with a blister. Poteet drew his first start with New York on April 13, tossing six innings of one-run ball while striking out four in a win over the Guardians. It's unclear if the Yankees view Poteet as a long-term replacement for Schmidt, who's expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks, but a strong outing Saturday would certainly make that a possibility.

Yankees' Cody Poteet: Set to start Saturday
Poteet (finger) will be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Saturday's game against the Giants, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
Poteet has been dealing with a blister and is currently on the Triple-A club's 7-day injured list, but he'll be healthy and ready to join the big club to make a start in place of Clarke Schmidt (lat). Poteet threw four innings in his last outing May 19 and has worked in a regular starting role with Scranton/Wilkes Barre this season, so he should be able to handle a normal workload. The Yankees haven't formally announced their plans beyond Saturday, but Poteet should have the chance to stick in the rotation until Gerrit Cole (elbow) is back from the 60-day injured list.
