Top Tony Snell News

  • Pelicans' Tony Snell: Not starting

Snell will play a reserve role in Friday's matchup with the Hornets.

Snell started for the injured Brandon Ingram (hamstring) in the Pelicans' previous game. While the latter is still sidelined, the team is opting to start Naji Marshall this time.

  • Pelicans' Tony Snell: Starting for injured Ingram

Snell will start Tuesday's game against the Grizzlies, Erin Summers of Bally Sports New Orleans reports.

Snell gets the nod with Brandon Ingram (hamstring) sidelined. It will be his first start with the Pelicans. In his 10 starts with the Trail Blazers before being traded, he averaged 6.0 points and 3.2 rebounds in 22.7 minutes.

  • Pelicans' Tony Snell: Modest performance Sunday

Snell registered nine points (3-6 FG, 3-5 3Pt), six rebounds and one steal over 22 minutes during Sunday's 123-95 victory over the Lakers.

Snell continues to see meaningful minutes off the bench for the resurgent Pelicans, providing a nice veteran presence for a team loaded with inexperience. Often seen as a player who offers surprisingly little despite playing solid minutes, he has actually been able to deliver some tangible production of late with three straight performances of at least nine points, four rebounds and three three-pointers made. This is not to say he is an add in 12-team leagues but for anyone in deeper formats, he can be utilized as a streaming option, specifically relating to triples and steals.

  • Pelicans' Tony Snell: Logs 29 minutes in loss Thursday

Snell finished with 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-5 3Pt), four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 28 minutes during Thursday's 125-118 loss to Dallas.

Snell was in the closing lineup Thursday and was actually somewhat productive. Often viewed as a player who offers very little in terms of numerical production, this could be viewed as a real highlight for Snell. With that being said, managers do not need to make any adjustments to their fantasy rosters based on this performance. We would need to see about a month's worth of production before considering him in competitive formats.

  • Pelicans' Tony Snell: Expected to debut Thursday

Snell (recently traded) is expected to make his Pelicans debut Thursday against the Heat.

Snell held a relatively small role with the Trail Blazers, as he averaged just 2.6 points and 1.9 rebounds in 14.4 minutes. His role isn't expected to increase significantly with the Pelicans. He'll be competing for reserve minutes on the wing with Garrett Temple, Trey Murphy, Naji Marshall and others. Even if his workload increases, Snell's usage is so minuscule that he won't be fantasy relevant.

  • Pelicans' Tony Snell: Joining McCollum in NOLA

The Pelicans acquired Snell, CJ McCollum and Larry Nance (knee) from the Trail Blazers on Tuesday in exchange for Josh Hart, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Tomas Satoransky, Didi Louzada (knee), a protected 2022 first-round pick and two future second-round picks, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

McCollum is the main prize in the deal for New Orleans, with Snell and Nance likely included as throw-in pieces primarily for salary-matching purposes. Snell had been included in Portland's rotation for much of the season, but as has been the case throughout his career, his defensive-minded, low-usage approach has made him one of the worst fantasy contributors on a per-minute basis. The veteran forward has taken a major step backward as a perimeter shooter in particular in 2021-22, converting only 0.6 three-pointers per game at a 32 percent clip after knocking down 56.9 percent of those attempts in 47 contests with Atlanta one season prior. Expect Snell's playing time to take a hit with the move to New Orleans, and he could find himself outside of head coach Willie Green's rotation when the team is at close to full strength. Since all the players involved in the deal will presumably need to pass physicals before the trade is finalized, Snell likely won't be available for Tuesday's game against the Rockets, but he could make his Pelicans debut Thursday versus the Heat.

  • Trail Blazers' Tony Snell: Erupts for 13 points in loss

Snell finished with 13 points (5-10 FG, 3-8 3Pt), eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks across 36 minutes during Friday's 96-93 loss to the Thunder.

In the starting lineup following Friday afternoon's trade, Snell took advantage of the opportunity and notched easily his best fantasy showing of the season. With Justise Winslow coming over from the Clippers, there's a good chance he'll be prioritized over Snell going forward, but Norman Powell and Robert Covington heading to Los Angeles could free up some more minutes for the veteran. Either way, he's unlikely to be a consistent enough fantasy contributor to warrant holding in most leagues.

  • Trail Blazers' Tony Snell: Rejoins starting five

Snell will start Wednesday's game against the Mavericks, Jay Allen of NBC Sports Northwest Rip City Radio 620 reports.

Snell sat out the past three games as a coach's decision but will return to the lineup Wednesday with Nassir Little (shoulder) and Robert Covington (knee) sidelined. Snell has averaged 2.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in 16.2 minutes off the bench in his last five appearances.

  • Trail Blazers' Tony Snell: Drops out of rotation

Snell (coach's decision) went unused off the bench Tuesday in the Trail Blazers' 109-107 loss to the Timberwolves.

Snell hasn't appeared in any of Portland's last three games and looks to have lost out on a spot in head coach Chauncey Billups' rotation. Now that the Trail Blazers are at full strength on the wing, CJ McCollum, Norman Powell, Ben McLemore and Nassir Little are expected to absorb the bulk of the minutes at either shooting guard or small forward moving forward.

  • Trail Blazers' Tony Snell: Returns to bench role

Snell isn't starting Monday's game against the Hawks.

Snell will come off the bench in this one with Jusuf Nurkic clearing the league's health and safety protocols earlier in the day. The former first-round pick out of New Mexico had struggled in his last four starts, averaging just 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 16.3 minutes.

  • Trail Blazers' Tony Snell: Trail Blazers-Nets postponed

Snell and the Trail Blazers won't play the Nets on Thursday after the NBA postponed the game due to Brooklyn not having the league-required eight available players for that contest.

As a result of the postponement, fantasy managers in deeper weekly leagues will get just one game out of Snell, who started in his return from a three-game absence due to a personal matter and finished with zero points (0-1 FG), three rebounds, one steal and one block in 18 minutes during Tuesday's 111-97 loss to the Pelicans. Snell and the Trail Blazers will return to action Monday against the Mavericks.

  • Trail Blazers' Tony Snell: Starting Tuesday

Snell will start Tuesday's game against the Pelicans, Casey Holdahl of the Trail Blazers' official site reports.

Nassir Little (illness) is out, so Snell gets his fourth start of the year. In his previous three starts, he averaged 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals in 25.0 minutes.
