Pelicans' Willy Hernangomez: Staying in New Orleans
Hernangomez agreed Friday to a three-year contract to remain with the Pelicans, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Hernangomez played a depth role at center last season for the Pelicans, though he started 12 games as well. The center appeared in 47 contests and averaged 7.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 18.0 minutes and has been no stranger to putting up great per-minute numbers. He should occupy a similar role in 2021-22. Jonas Valanciunas is the Pelicans' new starting center, and he'll presumably be backed up by Jaxson Hayes most of the time. However, there will be opportunities for Hernangomez to secure the true backup center role if Hayes' development remains stalled.... See More ... See Less

Hernangomez tallied 19 points (8-11 FG, 3-5 FT), 13 rebounds and two blocked shots across 30 minutes Sunday in a loss to the Lakers.
New Orleans limped to the end of the regular season with injuries to many of its stars, allowing Hernangomez a larger role to put his skills on display. The big man started 10 of the Pelicans' final 11 games, registering five double-doubles and averaging 11.8 points, 9.9 boards and 1.0 steals over that span.... See More ... See Less
Pelicans' Willy Hernangomez: Posts double-double in loss
Hernangomez recorded 12 points (3-5 FG, 6-8 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists and a steal across 26 minutes in Wednesday's loss against the Mavericks.
Hernangomez has started in each of his last seven appearances and has looked serviceable on both ends of the court, posting four double-doubles and scoring in double digits in all but one of those games. He's averaging 11.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game in that seven-game span with Steven Adams (toe) sidelined.... See More ... See Less
Pelicans' Willy Hernangomez: Puts up 15 points in loss
Hernangomez totaled 15 points (6-14 FG, 3-6 FT), eight rebounds and four assists in a 115-110 loss to the Grizzlies on Monday.
Hernangomez was able to score 15-plus points for just the third time this season despite being somewhat inefficient from the field. The center had converted at least 50.0 percent of his shot attempts in seven consecutive games before Monday's contest. Hernangomez has averaged 11.1 points and 9.6 rebounds across his last eight games.... See More ... See Less
Pelicans' Willy Hernangomez: Grabs 16 boards in win
Hernangomez had nine points (4-8 FG, 1-2 FT), 16 rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block in Sunday's win over the Hornets.
Making another start in place of Steven Adams (toe), Hernangomez turned in a strong all-around fantasy line in just 22 minutes of action. He's split time with Jaxson Hayes (26 minutes Sunday) over the last few games, and that will likely continue Monday as the Pels play at Memphis on the second half of the back-to-back.... See More ... Over that span, Hernangomez is averaging 11.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game with two double-doubles. As long as Steven Adams is dealing with a toe injury, Hernangomez will continue to see playing time.... See More ... See Less

Hernangomez will come off the bench Tuesday against the Warriors.
The 26-year-old started Monday and had 10 points (4-5 FG, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and one block in 25 minutes, but he'll return to the bench with Steven Adams (toe) rejoining the lineup. Hernangomez should operate as the Pelicans' secondary center behind Adams.... See More ... See Less

Hernangomez has started and played well over the past three games with Steven Adams (toe) out of the lineup. Until Adams returns to the lineup, feel free to stream Hernangomez if you need decent points, rebounds and field-goal percentage.... See More ... See Less
Pelicans' Willy Hernangomez: Records double-double in relief
Hernangomez produced 13 points (5-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist across 29 minutes in Thursday's 109-95 win over the Thunder.
With Jaxson Hayes only logging 19 minutes, Hernangomez appears to be the clear pivot for Steven Adams, who has been battling a toe injury over the past week. If the injury continues to be an issue, we will definitely see more of Hernangomez. The Pelicans need a healthy big man inside if they hope to make a push for the play-in game, and right now, Adams does not fit the bill.... See More ... See Less

Pelicans' Willy Hernangomez: Posts double-double Monday
Hernangomez recorded 12 points (5-7 FG, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, three steals and a block across 31 minutes in Monday's win over the Clippers.
Hernangomez started for the third time this season -- his first one since Feb. 21 -- due to the absence of Steven Adams (toe), and he made the most of his minutes by posting his second double-double over his last three appearances. He's a capable big man who can deliver decent numbers when given enough minutes, but he's likely to head back to the bench Wednesday at Denver if Adams is able to return to the court.... See More ... Pelicans' Willy Hernangomez: Starting in place of Adams
Hernangomez will get the start Monday night against the Clippers with Steven Adams (toe) sidelined, Andrew Lopez of ESPN reports.
Adams is battling a toe injury, so Hernangomez will have a chance to make just his third start of the season and his first since Feb. 21. Pelicans' Willy Hernangomez: Best game of season in win
Hernangomez tallied 18 points (7-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist and one block during Thursday's win over Orlando.
This was arguably Hernangomez's best outing of the season, as the center posted a season high offensively while grabbing a team-best 12 boards off the bench to record a double-double. It was his sixth double-double of the 2020-21 campaign and first since April 9 against Philadelphia. Counting Thursday's superb performance, Hernangomez has now scored at least 10 points in 10 games and pulled down at least 10 rebounds in nine outings this season.... See More ... See Less
Pelicans' Willy Hernangomez: Double-doubles once again
Hernangomez recorded 10 points (5-6 FG), 10 rebounds and a block across 19 minutes off the bench during Friday's win over the 76ers.
Hernangomez made the most of his limited on-court time and registered a double-double off the bench for the second time in his last four appearances. That said, Hernangomez has recorded just four double-doubles all season long and has seen limited minutes off the bench over the last few weeks, so there's a strong chance this performance was an outlier and not the form going forward....
