The Saints signed Johnson to a one-year contract extension Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Johnson made an instant impact for the Saints after signing with New Orleans in late December, racking up 2.5 sacks in the final three games of the regular season. Johnson signed a contract Tuesday with the Lions.
Johnson appeared in four games with the Lions earlier this season before being cut loose prior to the team's bye week. In order to re-sign Johnson, the Lions waived fellow defensive end Jacquies Smith. In his earlier stint with Detroit, Johnson averaged just over 20 defensive snaps per contest, recording two tackles in the process.

Johnson spent the 2016 season on injured reserve with the Buccaneers and was released prior to Week 1 earlier this month. The 29-year-old will hope to replicate his 2014 season in Detroit when he had 29 tackles (23 solo) and six sacks, but he more likely will serve as a rotational piece on the defensive line.
