Mitch Wishnowsky: Dropped by 49ers
Wishnowsky (back) was released by the 49ers on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old finished San Francisco's 2024 campaign on injured reserve due to a back injury, but it appears he's moved past the issue after being released without an injury designation Wednesday. Wishnowsky served as the 49ers' punter for six seasons prior to his release, accumulating 12,700 net yards and 138 punts inside the 20-yard line over 92 regular-season games. In a corresponding move, San Francisco inked a deal with 16-year veteran punter Thomas Morstead.

49ers' Mitch Wishnowsky: Officially placed on IR
The 49ers placed Wishnowsky (back) on injured reserve Saturday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
A back injury will force Wishnowsky to miss at least the next four regular-season games, making Week 15 against the Rams on Thursday, Dec. 12 the earliest he can return. Pat O'Donnell will serve as the 49ers' punter with Wishnowsky sidelined.

Wishnowsky has been unable to practice all week due to a back issue, and head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that Wishnowsky is a candidate to go on injured reserve, per Clayton Holloway of NFL.com. Pat O'Donnell will likely be called up from the practice squad to serve as the 49ers' punter for Week 11.

Wishnowsky (back) was activated by the 49ers from the non-football injury list Thursday, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
The punter tweaked his back during a weightlifting session and had been out before passing a physical Thursday morning. Wishnowsky has been San Francisco's punter since the team selected him in the fourth round of the 2019 Draft. After signing a four-year extension during the 2022 season, his spot appears secure as long as he's healthy.
