  • Chiefs' Mecole Hardman: Returns for minicamp

Hardman (hamstring) participated in June minicamp, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.

Hardman missed a few days of OTAs in late May but was back on the field for mandatory minicamp less than three weeks later. He's one of the main candidates to benefit from Tyreek Hill's departure, along with offseason additions JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore. He's no Hill, but Hardman does offer some of the same traits, namely speed and elusiveness, and he's only 24 years old heading into the fourth and final season of his rookie contract. The injury won't be noteworthy unless it pops up again during training camp, as Hardman doesn't have any reported history of hamstring issues and has played in each of the Chiefs' 58 games (including playoffs) since they drafted him

  • Chiefs' Mecole Hardman: Nursing tweaked hamstring

Coach Andy Reid said Hardman did not practice Thursday because he "tweaked his hamstring" Wednesday, Pete Sweeney of reports.

The Chiefs will likely continue to take a cautious approach to Hardman's recovery, as hamstring injuries can linger when rushed. Both Hardman and rookie second-round pick Skyy Moore are currently sitting out OTAs due to hamstring injuries, leaving opportunities for increased reps behind JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. As he heads into his fourth season with Kansas City, Hardman will have the opportunity to compete for a starting gig once back on the field.

  • Chiefs' Mecole Hardman: Likely in mix to start

Hardman may be in line for increased touches in 2022, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.

Taylor projects Hardman as one of the starting wideouts for the Chiefs, which finally could result in him getting a chance to unlock his full potential after a couple of mediocre campaigns the last two years following an impressive rookie season. Despite the team trading Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins this offseason, Hardman still has plenty of competition for targets, with Kansas City having added JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling via free agency and Skyy Moore (hamstring) in the draft.

  • Chiefs' Mecole Hardman: Gains new competition

Hardman has new competition at the wideout position after the Chiefs signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a three-year contract Thursday, Tod Palmer of KSHB 41 Kansas City reports.

It's still a net gain for Hardman in terms of potential for production in 2022 with Valdes-Scantling swapping in for star wideout Tyreek Hill. However, the Chiefs also picked up first- and second-round draft picks in the deal that sent Hill to Miami, so there's a relatively strong chance at least one of those picks will be another wideout.
