Red Wings' Daniel Sprong: Two points in OT thriller
Sprong supplied a 5-on-5 goal and a power-play assist in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Canadiens.
Sprong has been incredibly efficient in a bottom-six role, as evidenced by him collecting six goals and 10 assists through 23 games. Fantasy managers shouldn't lose sight of the fact that the sneaky utility winger is averaging 1:59 of ice time on the power play for which he's collected four helpers. Best of all, Sprong is on pace to eclipse the career-high 46 points that he supplied for the young Kraken franchise last season.

Red Wings' Daniel Sprong: Multi-point night in win Wednesday
Sprong dished out two assists, one on the power play, to go with five shots in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Devils.
After lighting the lamp in Sweden the last time the Red Wings laced up the skates, Sprong stayed hot in the team's return to the states. This was Sprong's first multi-point game of the season, and it raised his season point total to 12 through 18 games. Sprong's proving that last season's 46-point breakout in Seattle, which doubled his previous career high, was no fluke.

Red Wings' Daniel Sprong: Converts penalty shot in Sweden
Sprong scored on a penalty shot in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Maple Leafs as part of the Global Series in Sweden.
The penalty shot followed a ruling that Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly covered the puck in the crease. According to Dave McCarthy of NHL.com, Sprong is now in the books as the first player to score a goal on a penalty shot in a regular-season contest outside of North America. The crafty winger is firmly entrenched in the bottom-six group, but he's managed five goals and five assists through 17 games.

Red Wings' Daniel Sprong: Nets third goal of 2023-24
Sprong collected a goal in a 4-3 overtime win over the Islanders on Monday.
Sprong has been held off the scoresheet just once over his last six contests, bringing him up to three markers and seven points in 10 outings this year. Those offensive numbers are impressive when measured against his average of 13:33 of ice time over his first nine games this year, though Sprong did see that jump to 17:10 during the Red Wings' latest victory. If the 26-year-old continues to be leaned on like he was Monday, then he might challenge his career highs of 21 goals and 46 points. It remains to be seen if Sprong's heavy use was just an anomaly though, so it'll be worth keeping an eye on him over the next few games.

He has added 13 shots on net, four PIM and a plus-4 rating. Sprong's coming off a 46-point effort in 66 games for the Kraken last year, and it appears he'll be a key depth scorer in his first year with the Red Wings.

Red Wings' Daniel Sprong: Two goals in two games
Sprong found the back of the net in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Lightning.
Sprong, who also scored in the opener, patiently waited around the doorstep and cleaned up an Alex DeBrincat shot that initially caused everyone to lose sight of the puck. Detroit did a major overhaul of its roster in the offseason, including the addition of Sprong, a castoff from the nascent Kraken franchise. Sprong shouldn't be overlooked as a budget option in DFS formats following a career-best season, which included 21 goals and 25 assists.

The 26-year-old Sprong signed a two-year deal with the Red Wings after breaking out for 21 goals and 46 points with Seattle last season. He'll open the year on the Red Wings' third line with Andrew Copp and Michael Rasmussen and Sprong should also see time with the second power-play unit.
