Coyotes' Clayton Keller: Could begin skating in three weeks
Keller (leg) says he could start skating in three weeks, Arizona Coyotes Insider Craig Morgan reports.
Keller suffered a broken leg March 30. He underwent surgery to address the injury, and it appears he's ready to take the first steps in his recovery. Keller was initially given a 4-6 month timeline to return, so his availability for the start of the 2022-23 campaign likely won't be determined until later in the summer. He had 28 goals and 35 assists in 67 contests prior to the injury, which was the first major adversity he's faced at the NHL level -- he hadn't missed a game since the start of the 2017-18 season.... Coyotes' Clayton Keller: Out 4-6 months
Keller underwent surgery for a broken leg Thursday and is expected to miss 4-6 months.
Keller had already ruled himself out for the rest of the season via his social media account but this latest update confirms the severity of the situation. Given a six-month recovery timeline, the 23-year-old natural center would be ready just in time for the start of the 2022-23 campaign, though he would obviously need to avoid any setbacks. Despite his now shortened season, the Missouri native still managed to set a new personal best in goals (28) and likely would have topped his career-high point total of 65 from his rookie campaign back in 2017-18.... Coyotes' Clayton Keller: Needs stretcher after awkward fall
Keller took an awkward fall into the boards in the third period of Wednesday's game versus the Sharks. The winger needed to be stretchered off the ice, Corey Masisak of The Athletic reports.
Masisak added that it appeared Keller's lower-body took the worst of the collision, so he likely avoided significant head trauma. It's still never a good sign when a player needs a stretcher to leave the ice, but Keller was alert throughout the incident. Given how late in the game the injury occurred, there's unlikely to be a substantial update on his status prior before Thursday. The 23-year-old leads the Coyotes with 63 points through 67 appearances, so any potential absence is a massive one for a team that often struggles to score. Per Jose M. Romero of The Arizona Republic, Keller will go to the hospital for further evaluation, and he is likely to miss significant time.... See More ... See Less
