  • Tuomo Ruutu: Joins Rangers staff

Ruutu will end his professional career by joining the Rangers as an Assistant Director of Player Development.

Ruutu hasn't played professionally since the 2016-17 season, when he was overseas with Swiss club Davos HC. • Tuomo Ruutu: Inks one-year deal with Swiss club

Ruutu signed a one-year contract with HC Davos of Swiss National League A on Friday.

The 33-year-old Finn moves on from the NHL after getting dropped from his PTO with the Canucks over two weeks ago. Ruutu played his best hockey as a member of the Hurricanes in the late 2000s, highlighted by a 57-point campaign in 2010-11. Fans of Ruutu know that he plays aggressively and tends to hit anything that moves.

  • Tuomo Ruutu: Released from tryout

Ruutu was let go from his PTO by the Canucks on Tuesday, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

In five preseason contests, Ruutu managed just one point while averaging 13:32 of ice time per night. Over the past two years, the 33-year-old managed a meager 14 points in 110 contests. With numbers like that, the winger will be hard pressed to find a team willing to add him to the roster just before Opening Night.

  • Canucks' Tuomo Ruutu: Will attend camp on PTO

Ruutu signed a professional tryout agreement with the Canucks on Tuesday.

Ruutu has been with the Devils the past three seasons, but saw action in just 33 games this past year due to a fractured foot that kept him off the ice for an extended period of time. The 33-year-old veteran winger was only able to notch one assist and remained well off the fantasy radar. Ruutu isn't getting any younger and has dealt with his fair share of injuries, so it's tough to see him making a large impact with the Canucks.

  • Devils' Tuomo Ruutu: Activated off injured reserve

Ruutu (lower body) was activated off injured reserve Thursday.

Ruutu is set to draw into the lineup for just the 10th time this season, and is expected to play alongside Travis Zajac and Lee Stempniak on the second line. He'll provide some much needed depth with six other Devils forwards dealing with an injury, and will look to tally his first point after going without one in his first nine contests.

  • Devils' Tuomo Ruutu: Practices Monday

Ruutu (lower body) was on the ice for practice Monday, but didn't participate in line rushes, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

Ruutu's first eligible to rejoin the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Avalanche, and his presence at practice Monday certainly bodes well for his chances of playing when first eligible. However, his progress at practice over the next couple days should provide a clearer picture of a potential timetable.

  • Devils' Tuomo Ruutu: Healthy scratch Saturday

Ruutu will be a healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Stars, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

Ruutu missed the Devils' last two games due to an illness, but has apparently recovered from the ailment, and will simply be a healthy scratch for Saturday's matchup with Dallas. The 32-year-old winger has failed to tally a single point in eight games this season.

Ruutu (illness) stayed back in New Jersey ahead of Wednesday's road date with the Senators, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

  • Devils' Tuomo Ruutu: Out with illness Tuesday

Ruutu is still dealing with an illness that will keep him out Tuesday night, when the Devils host the Hurricanes, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

The Devils face the Hurricanes twice in as many days, and Ruutu should be considered day-to-day ahead of Wednesday's match. He's still looking for his first point this season as a fractured foot sustained in late October is largely the reason why he's been limited to eight games this campaign.

  • Devils' Tuomo Ruutu: Skips practice Monday with illness

Ruutu did not practice Monday due to an illness, and his status for Tuesday remains unclear, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

Ruutu's availability for Tuesday's game will depend on how he feels in the morning. As of now, he's likely questionable for the contest, but expect an update at some point Tuesday confirming his status.

  • Devils' Tuomo Ruutu: Quiet in return to lineup

Ruutu didn't put a shot on goal or record a point over 12:49 of ice time in his return from a foot injury Thursday against the Panthers.

It was the 32-year-old's first action since Oct. 16 and just his third game of the season. Considering that the Devils got trucked by a 5-1 tally, it's to Ruutu's credit that he didn't finish with a negative rating. Nonetheless, he maintains precious little fantasy value, as he doesn't generally rack up any fantasy stats besides hits.

  • Devils' Tuomo Ruutu: Declares himself ready to play Thursday

Ruutu (foot) said he will play Thursday night against the Panthers, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

A return to game ice has been a long time coming for Ruutu, as the Finn hasn't played since Oct. 16 due to a fractured right foot. Ruutu delivered 390 hits in two campaigns between 2013-15, continuing to live up to his reputation as a loose cannon who isn't afraid to dig into the corner boards to control possession of the puck.

  • Devils' Tuomo Ruutu: Close to returning to action

Head coach John Hynes told reporters Tuesday that Ruutu (foot) will be ready to play "any day now," Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

Ruutu has been out since Oct. 18 with a fractured foot, but recently returned to practice with his teammates, and appears to be on the verge of returning to game action. Hynes' statement effectively rules the veteran winger out of Tuesday's matchup with the Sabres, but bodes well for his chances of drawing back into the Devils' lineup for Thursday's game against the Panthers.
