Montana's Wayne Tinkle has officially reached an agreement to become Oregon State's next head coach, the school announced on Monday.

A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday.

"The more I went through the process, the more recommendations I received about Coach Tinkle," said Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis. "I met with Coach Tinkle for several hours last week and came away very impressed with him. His success on the basketball court as a coach and player is well documented, but even more so, I was impressed with his demeanor, family and philosophy. I think he is a perfect fit for our basketball program, Oregon State University, the community and this state."

CBSSports.com reported the likelihood of this hire Sunday night.

Arizona assistant Damon Stoudamire was previously considered a leading candidate after negotiations broke down between Oregon State and former UCLA coach Ben Howland, and sources told CBSSports.com that Stoudamire and De Carolis did talk by phone. But things never went farther than that, sources told CBSSports.com.

Tinkle is replacing Craig Robinson at Oregon State.

Robinson was fired earlier this month after six seasons.
