  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Totals 27 yards vs. Las Vegas

Johnson logged a three-yard carry and caught both of his targets for 24 yards during the Bills' 33-30 win over the Raiders on Sunday.

Johnson and Ray Davis each saw only one carry during Sunday's win, with lead back James Cook turning 22 carries into 95 yards and a touchdown. Johnson was still involved somewhat in the passing game, and through four games he has 12 catches on as many targets for 155 yards. The veteran running back will continue to operate in a rotational role on offense, but his workload would expand significantly if Cook were to ever miss time. The Bills are on a bye for Week 7, and their next game will take place in Week 8 against the Ravens on Sunday, Nov. 1.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Ready for Sunday

Johnson (hamstring) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Las Vegas, Sam Warren of The Athletic reports.

Johnson was a new addition to the injury report this week, listed as limited Wednesday and Thursday before upgrading to full participation Friday. He made a big impact in the Week 5 win at Los Angeles, catching each of his four targets for 72 yards across just 14 snaps (21.9 percent snap share).

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Limited at Thursday's practice

Johnson (hamstring) was a limited participant at practice Thursday.

Johnson popped up on the Bills' injury report with a hamstring issue Wednesday, and it was still bothering him at practice Thursday. Whether he ends up carrying an injury designation into the weekend might depend on his activity Friday, which will be his last chance to practice ahead of Sunday's game at Las Vegas. If he can go in Week 6, he'll be looking to build off the four-catch, 72-yard performance he managed in Week 5 against the Rams.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Limited at walkthrough

Johnson (hamstring) was considered limited at the Bills' walkthrough practice Wednesday.

Johnson reeled in all four of his targets for 72 yards during Monday night's 37-34 overtime win against the Rams, but he may have picked up a hamstring injury in the process. The running back's ability to be limited Wednesday is a positive sign, but he'll have two more chances to log a full practice and erase any concern about his availability for Sunday's contest versus Las Vegas.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Big day as receiver in Week 5 OT win

Johnson caught all four of his targets for 72 yards during the Bills' 37-34 overtime win over the Rams on Monday.

Johnson played only 14 of the Bills' 64 offensive snaps (21.9 percent) and didn't log a single carry. However, the veteran running back made his snaps count as a receiver, rumbling for 40 yards on his first catch midway through the second quarter that led to a 17-yard touchdown run by James Cook on the very next play. Johnson added three more catches in the second half -- including a 26-yard grab -- and finished second on the Bills in receiving yards behind Khalil Shakir (80). Johnson will continue to operate as the Bills' change-of-pace back heading into Week 7 against the Raiders.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Contributes 12 yards in Week 4 loss

Johnson rushed once for three yards and caught both of his targets for nine yards Sunday in a loss to New England.

Johnson logged 19 offensive snaps, well ahead of the four snaps played by Ray Davis and well behind the 35 snaps logged by starter James Cook. Johnson logged 50 receiving yards in his season debut in Week 3, and six of his seven touches this season have been receptions, so he clearly has a role as a pass catcher in Buffalo's offense. With that said, Johnson doesn't have a reliable weekly fantasy floor and isn't a trustworthy fantasy asset as long as Cook is healthy.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Ready for season debut

Johnson (hamstring) does not have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. "Ty Johnson will be good to go," coach Joe Brady said Friday.

He missed both of the first two games, but with receivers DJ Moore (shoulder) and Keon Coleman (ankle) both being listed as questionable, Johnson's receiving skills out of the backfield might be useful for the offense. Johnson really isn't recommended for fantasy unless anything happens to starter James Cook, but the former's presence on the field does knock Ray Davis down a peg.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Logs full practice Wednesday

    Johnson (hamstring) practiced fully Wednesday.

Johnson thus is poised for his season debut Sunday against the Chargers after missing the first two games of the campaign due to a hamstring issue. Working behind James Cook and vying with Ray Davis for complementary RB reps doesn't afford Johnson much in terms of touches, as he's earned 170 in 44 regular-season games over the last three years as a member of the Bills.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Inactive again in Week 2

Johnson (hamstring) is listed as inactive Thursday against the Lions.

Despite being listed as limited on all three of the Bills' Week 2 injury reports, Johnson will continue to don street clothes on game days due to a hamstring issue that has bothered him since at least Aug. 24. In Johnson's absence, Ray Davis will continue to garner RB reps that don't go to starter James Cook, while Frank Gore is on hand in case one of those two leaves the game for any reason.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Questionable for home opener

Johnson (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Lions.

Johnson sat out the Week 1 victory over the Texans. He returned to a limited practice Tuesday, but he's not quite in the clear yet, and his status will probably come down to the wire for the primetime game Thursday. No Buffalo running back has much value outside of insurance behind bell-cow back James Cook, and now Frank Gore has had a chance to enter the mix as yet another option in the Buffalo backfield.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Limited in Tuesday's practice

Johnson (hamstring) was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice.

Johnson has opened Week 2 prep with back-to-back limited practices, and Wednesday's report will provide clarity on whether he'll be available for Thursday night's home tilt against the Lions. The veteran running back is currently working through a right hamstring injury, and he's been dealing with lower-body issues since early training camp. Frank Gore would likely be elevated from the practice squad and serve as Buffalo's RB3 behind James Cook and Ray Davis if Johnson is not cleared to play against Detroit.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Estimated as limited Monday

The Bills listed Johnson (hamstring) as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report.

After missing the Bills' first two practices of Week 1, Johnson returned to the field Friday as a limited participant and took a questionable tag into Sunday's season opener versus the Texans. Johnson ultimately was inactive for the 36-31 win, but he'll have a stronger chance of making his 2026 debut Thursday against the Lions if he can upgrade to full participation in practice at some point over the next two days.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: No-go Week 1

Johnson (hamstring) is inactive Week 1 against the Texans.

Johnson was able to log only a single limited practice this week, and the 28-year-old back entered Sunday with a "questionable" tag. He'll ultimately sit against Houston, leaving a few more backfield snaps to starter James Cook and backup Ray Davis. Johnson and the Bills have a short week ahead, as they're set to take on the Lions in a Week 2 matchup Thursday night. If Johnson does end up suiting up then, he'll likely return to his role as a passing down specialist and special-teamer, similar to his last few seasons in Buffalo.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Questionable for Week 1

Johnson (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game at Houston, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.

Johnson just returned to practice Thursday after missing a month, but head coach Joe Brady said Friday that the veteran running back "doesn't need a lot of the physical work to go do his job." If Johnson ends up inactive, it could push more snaps and targets toward starter James Cook, in addition to benefitting backup Ray Davis. The Bills have typically deployed Johnson as a passing-down specialist.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Practicing, may not play

Johnson (hamstring) is practicing Friday, but Alex Brasky of SI.com believes the running back is unlikely to play Sunday in Houston.

Johnson returned to practice Thursday after missing a full month, so the Bills will probably wait until Week 2 or 3 to have him suit up. James Cook could get a few extra snaps in passing situations, while Ray Davis also gets a minor boost for workload projection in Johnson's absence.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Not practicing Thursday

Johnson (hamstring) didn't practice Thursday, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

Johnson continues to miss practice due to the hamstring injury, which has kept him sidelined since Aug. 8. Though Johnson avoided placement on injured reserve coming out of the preseason, his 2026 debut could be delayed until at least Week 2 if he's unable to practice in some capacity Friday. In the event Johnson is sidelined for Sunday's season opener versus the Texans, Frank Gore could be elevated from the practice squad to provide a third option in the backfield behind James Cook and Ray Davis.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Sitting out Wednesday's practice

Johnson (lower leg) isn't participating in Wednesday's practice, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.

Johnson has been a spectator for practices since Aug. 8, when he appeared to sustain a right leg injury during a 1-on-1 drill. Though he still has two more days to potentially fit in some on-field work prior to Sunday's game against the Texans, Johnson may be trending toward an absence in Week 1. If Johnson ends up missing the season opener, the Bills would have more snaps on passing downs available for lead back James Cook.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Remains idle Tuesday

Johnson (lower leg) remains sidelined at Tuesday's practice, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.

Johnson exited practice in early August and has been dealing with some sort of issue in his leg for the better part of a full month now. He resumed running and sprinting last week. Turning 29 later this month, Johnson has carved out a role on game days with the Bills, but he's more of a nuisance than anything in fantasy. Even if James Cook were to go down with an injury, Johnson's role likely wouldn't change all that much, as Ray Davis is Cook's more direct backup as a rusher. Johnson has averaged just 3.9 touches per game over his 34 regular-season appearances dating back to the start of the 2024 campaign.

... See More ... See Less
  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Not practicing, but running again

Johnson (lower leg) didn't practice Tuesday, but head coach Joe Brady said that the running back has resumed sprinting, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.

Though Johnson hasn't practiced in more than two weeks while nursing a lower-leg injury and looks unlikely to play in Thursday's preseason finale versus the Steelers, Brady noted that the running back is "in a good head space" and could still be available for Week 1 in Houston. If Johnson ends up being sidelined to begin the regular season, however, lead back James Cook could take on a heightened role on passing downs.
