Pirates' Jake Mangum: Big day in wild loss
Mangum went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 8-7 loss to the Reds.
His second-inning shot off Hunter Greene briefly gave the Pirates a 3-2 lead in a wild back-and-forth affair. Mangum's homer was just his third of the year, while the steal was his 20th, marking the second straight season in which he's reached that milestone. Over 24 games in July, Mangum put together a .319/.379/.436 slash line with two home runs, six stolen bases, nine RBI and 14 runs while acting as the primary center fielder in the absence of Oneil Cruz (hand).

He's batting .381 (16-for-42) over 13 games since joining the Padres' big-league roster July 8. Bowen went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-0 win over the Giants.
This was Bowen's second multi-hit effort in July, though he hit safely in just four of 20 games during the month. The outfielder continues to fill more of a part-time role, making most of his starts as a platoon partner for Gavin Sheets in left field. Bowen hit .222 in July and is at .167 with a .456 OPS across 63 plate appearances this season. He's added one homer, six RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and four stolen bases.

Casey Schmitt LF | SF
Giants' Casey Schmitt: Undergoes surgery
Schmitt underwent a debridement of his lateral meniscus Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The Giants said that Schmitt could be ready to return in roughly 6-to-8 weeks, but with San Francisco sitting at 47-62 -- well out of contention for a playoff spot -- the team likely won't be in any rush to bring him back and could opt to keep him out until 2027. Either way, he's expected to have a normal offseason and will be ready for the start of spring training.

Cole Carrigg CF | COL
Rockies' Cole Carrigg: Sitting out Friday
Carrigg is absent from the lineup for Colorado's matchup with Kansas City on Friday.
After snapping a modest four-game hitting streak Wednesday, Carrigg will ride the pine for Friday's series opener against the Royals. Brenton Doyle, back from the injured list, will man center field and bat eighth for the Rockies.

Rockies' Brenton Doyle: Returns to Colorado
The Rockies reinstated Doyle (groin) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Prior to being sidelined, the 28-year-old batted .207/.279/.270 with one home run, four RBI and nine stolen bases in 122 plate appearances. Colorado optioned Braxton Fulford to Triple-A Albuquerque to clear space for Doyle on the 26-man roster.

Brenton Doyle CF | CHW
Rockies' Brenton Doyle: Slated for activation Friday
The Rockies will activate Doyle (groin) from the 10-day injured list prior to Friday's game against the Royals, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Doyle has been sidelined since late May, first due to an oblique strain but more recently because of a strained groin. However, he has gone 10-for-21 with a home run since resuming his rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque last week, clearing the way for his return. Doyle was not being used as an everyday player when he got hurt, and it might take the Rockies trading another outfielder to alter his playing time outlook.
