Scheduled Pirates starting pitcher Kevin Correia will not make his start against the Cardinals Saturday night in Pittsburgh, the club announced Saturday afternoon. Correia is experiencing discomfort in his left side. The big news here is who will be making the start: A.J. Burnett.

Burnett began the season on the 15-day disabled list as he's been rehabbing from surgery to repair his fractured orbital bone. He broke the bone on a botched bunt attempt during spring batting practice.

Burnett, 35, went 11-11 with a 5.15 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 173 strikeouts in 190 1/3 innings last season for the Yankees. He also led the majors with 25 wild pitches. The Pirates acquired him from the Yankees in a salary dump this past offseason.

Burnett made three rehab starts and was wholly unimpressive. He was 0-3 with a 9.58 ERA and 1.94 WHIP, combining his two High-A starts with his one Triple-A start.
