Bartolo Colon has been activated from the disabled list after dealing with an oblique injury, the Athletics announced Tuesday. To make room on the 25-man roster, Brian Fuentes has been designated for assignment.
Colon owns a 4.22 ERA on the season despite a tremendous 3.44 K/BB. The problem with Colon, as has been for years, is the home run ball. Colon allowed 12 in his first 15 starts.
Fuentes struggled mightily all year for the Athletics, allowing 19 runs in 25 innings. As closer, Fuentes picked up five saves but blew three more. He struck out just 6.5 batters per nine innings for the second straight season and allowed five home runs. He may catch on in a bullpen that needs a left-handed arm, however.
