  • Cavaliers' Ricky Rubio: Starting Sunday

Rubio is starting Sunday's preseason game against Chicago, Kelsey Russo of The Athletic reports.

Rubio played 20 minutes off the bench Tuesday, but he'll join the starting five with Darius Garland (illness) sidelined Sunday. Although the 30-year-old will likely take on a bench role to begin the regular season, he's expected to see plenty of minutes for the Cavaliers.

  • Cavaliers' Ricky Rubio: Provides spark off bench

Rubio accumulated 10 points (3-10 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six assists and five rebounds in 20 minutes during Tuesday's 131-95 loss to the Bulls.

Rubio needs to clean up his efficiency, but he, unsurprisingly, excelled as a distributor. He's reportedly going to play a key role with the Cavaliers this season, but there will only be so many minutes and so much usage available with Darius Garland, Collin Sexton and Isaac Okoro around. Ultimately, he may pop for some nice games off the bench, but Rubio probably won't be fantasy-relevant in standard leagues.

  • Cavaliers' Ricky Rubio: Expected to play key role

Rubio is in line for "a ton" of minutes as the Cavaliers' backup point guard this season, Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reports.

Rubio landing in Cleveland via trade seemed like an odd fit, on paper, but the Cavs were in desperate need of a veteran, backup point guard, and Rubio's resume -- coupled with his expiring contract -- made him a strong fit. The 30-year-old said he's prepared to lend his experience to a young Cavs team hoping to push Darius Garland and Collin Sexton to the next level. Garland, in particular, figures to benefit from Rubio's tutelage. "It takes a lot of energy to have the year that [Garland] had last year," Rubio said. "He had great numbers, great year. But that can translate to a winning team. I'm going to have to challenge him in that area. I'm going to bring my experience the same way I did with Booker, the same way I did with Donovan Mitchell, the same way I did with the young stars that I had on my team." Fedor notes that a team source said Rubio will be in line for significant minutes as the Cavs' secondary ball handler behind Garland and Sexton -- a role the veteran is eager to embrace. Coming off of an excellent showing in the Olympics, Rubio said he's feeling confident about his game. "I think I'm back on track," Rubio said. "And I feel like I'm in my prime with my career. I can bring a lot to the table. I feel the best I've ever felt." Injuries have been a theme throughout Rubio's career, but if he can stay healthy this season he should again be a valuable source of assists and steals for fantasy managers.

  • Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio: Traded to Cleveland

Rubio, along with a 2022 second-round pick and cash, has been traded from the Timberwolves to the Cavaliers in exchange for Tauren Prince, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Rubio struggled in his one season back with the Wolves. He averaged just 8.6 points on 38.8 percent shooting, 6.4 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 26.1 minutes. The Wolves may have been looking to move his contract and get a wing in exchange -- a need that Prince satisfies. In joining the Cavs, Rubio figures to be a reserve point guard behind Darius Garland. However, the rebuilding squad may look to move the veteran to another team.

  • Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio: Not starting Sunday

Rubio isn't starting Sunday's game against the Mavericks.

Rubio had started each of the last five games, and averaged 12.6 points, 5.0 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 28.0 minutes per contest during that time. Jaden McDaniels will take his place in the starting five.

  • Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio: Remains aggressive offensively

Rubio posted 19 points (8-14 FG, 3-8 3Pt), five assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block in 30 minutes during Tuesday's 119-100 win over the Pistons.

Rubio's scoring has ticked up lately. He's scored at least 16 points for a third straight game, which marks Rubio's first three-game streak of double-digit scoring since mid-March. He's also recorded at least one steal in 23 of his past 25 appearances.

  • Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio: Scores 18 in 26 minutes

Rubio dropped 18 points (6-11 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 3-3 FT), two rebounds, two assists and one steal in 26 minutes during Sunday's 128-96 win over the Magic.

Rubio has scored in double figures in four of his last five games after having three straight contests of scoring fewer than five points. With D'Angelo Russell starting alongside Rubio in the backcourt over the last two games, Rubio is averaging 17.0 points, 5.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals while shooting 52.2 percent.

  • Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio: Just misses double-double Friday

Rubio scored 16 points (6-12 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT) while adding nine assists, three rebounds and two steals in 33 minutes during Friday's loss to the Heat.

He came up just short of his fifth double-double of the season and first since March 22. The veteran point guard had seen his workload dwindle in April with D'Angelo Russell back in top form, but Rubio's now played more than 30 minutes in three of the last four games, averaging 13.8 points, 6.5 assists, 4.0 boards, 2.5 steals and 1.8 threes over that stretch.

  • Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio: Struggles off bench

Rubio was held to two points (0-3 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT) in Wednesday's loss to Memphis, contributing four rebounds and four assists in 17 minutes.

After starting the previous 39 games, Rubio shifted back to a bench role in favor of D'Angelo Russell. The 30-year-old struggled to get anything going offensively while playing his fewest minutes since Jan. 22. The 10-year veteran's fantasy value has taken a massive hit with his demotion to the bench, so fantasy managers should look elsewhere for consistent production.

  • Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio: Shifts to bench Wednesday

Rubio will come off the bench for Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies.

With D'Angelo Russell rejoining the starting lineup for the first time since early February, Rubio will shift back to a bench role. It's unclear at this time whether Russell will remain in the starting five going forward, but Rubio should continue to see plenty of work even as the backup point guard.

  • Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio: Busts out for 26 points in win

Rubio tallied 26 points (7-13 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 7-7 FT), six rebounds, six assists and two steals in 31 minutes during Thursday's 126-114 victory over the Warriors.

After trending down over the past few games, Rubio came from the clouds Thursday, turning in arguably his best performance of the season. With D'Angelo Russell struggling on the offensive end, Rubio took it upon himself to do a lot of the heavy lifting, leading the team with 26 points. He remains a viable 12-team asset due simply to his upside in both assists and steals. Scoring outbursts such as this are simply icing on the cake.

  • Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio: Dishes 11 dimes

Rubio finished Tuesday's 134-120 win over the Kings with six points (3-8 FG, 0-3 3Pt), 11 assists, four rebounds and a steal over 30 minutes.

The scoring wasn't there for Rubio, but he made up for it by notching double-digit dimes for the first time in his past 11 games. Rubio continues to start over D'Angelo Russell, though that arrangement may not last long after Russell's 28-point outburst Tuesday. Even in a reserve role, Rubio could still make an impact. He's not a reliable scorer, but he's averaged 6.7 assists and 1.4 steals in 55 contests this season.

  • Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio: Tallies 17 points

Rubio totaled 17 points (5-10 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 5-5 FT), four assists, three rebounds and two steals in 32 minutes during Friday's 119-111 win over the Heat.

Rubio rebounded from a scoreless outing with 17 points on 50 percent shooting, including a perfect five-for-five from the free-throw line. The veteran's 32 minutes were the most he has seen since March 22. The journeyman also extended his streak of consecutive games with a steal to 13 after nabbing two against the Heat.
