  • Cavaliers' Ricky Rubio: Suffers torn ACL

Rubio will miss the remainder of the 2021-22 season after he underwent an MRI on Wednesday that confirmed he sustained a torn ACL in his left knee, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Rubio got hurt late in Tuesday's 108-104 loss to the Pelicans, with the serious knee injury casting a shadow over a dominant performance in which he posted 27 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists, two steals and two blocks across 37 minutes while filling in as the starting point guard for Darius Garland (COVID-19 health and safety protocols). The injury is a gutting one for the surging Cavaliers and Rubio, who previously tore his ACL in the same knee as a rookie with the Timberwolves in 2011-12. With that in mind, Rubio's rehab could extend into the 2022-23 campaign and significantly affect the outlook for the rest of his career. With both Rubio and Garland out, rookie Kevin Pangos is projected to step in as the team's starting point guard in the short term.

  • Cavaliers' Ricky Rubio: Getting MRI on knee

Rubio will undergo an MRI on his left knee Wednesday after he exited late in Tuesday's 108-104 loss to the Pelicans, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Rubio required assistance off the floor from his teammates after being unable to put weight on his left leg when he left with 2:20 remaining in the fourth quarter. Before sustaining the injury, Rubio delivered a huge outing while stepping in as the starting point guard in place of Darius Garland, who entered the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols prior to the contest. Rubio finished with 27 points (10-25 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 13 rebounds, nine assists, two steals and two blocks across 37 minutes, boosting his season-long averages to 13.1, 4.1, 6.6, 1.4 and 0.2 per game in those respective categories. With Collin Sexton (knee) already done for the season, Cleveland could end up even more shorthanded in the backcourt if Rubio is diagnosed with a serious injury. It's worth noting that Rubio suffered a torn ACL in the same knee during his rookie season with the Timberwolves in 2011-12.

  • Cavaliers' Ricky Rubio: Helped off floor

Rubio was helped off the floor with an apparent leg injury during the fourth quarter of Tuesday's game against the Pelicans, Andrew Lopez of reports.

Rubio was in the midst of a fantastic game with 27 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists. He was holding his left knee after going down, and he wasn't putting any weight on his leg while being helped to the locker room by his teammates. It certainly seems possible Rubio suffered a serious injury, which would be a huge blow to the team since he's having a great year for the succeeding Cavs. For the duration of his absence, with Darius Garland in protocols, more minutes will be available for Kevin Pangos, Denzel Valentine and other backcourt options.

  • Cavaliers' Ricky Rubio: Notches double-double Saturday

Rubio closed with 15 points (6-12 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), five rebounds, 10 assists, one block and three steals across 29 minutes during Saturday's 119-90 win over the Bucks.

Rubio led Cleveland reserves with 29 minutes of court time, and he came through with his first double-double since Nov. 7. The veteran point guard has produced 22 total assists and seven steals over his past two contests. He's been inconsistent as a scorer throughout the campaign, but with per-game averages of 12.7 points, 6.6 dimes, 3.9 boards and 1.3 steals, Rubio has earned a place on fantasy squads in most formats.

  • Cavaliers' Ricky Rubio: Metrics darling in win

Rubio amassed seven points (2-6 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), two rebounds, 12 assists and four steals over 21 minutes during Wednesday's 124-89 victory over the Rockets.

Rubio and Darius Garland both finished with a whopping plus-30 in the box score. Rubio racked up four steals and was the only Cavalier to record more than four assists. He's the best distributor on Cleveland's roster and is currently averaging 9.1 assists per 40 minutes. Also, his usage rate of 25.7 is the highest mark of his career.

  • Cavaliers' Ricky Rubio: Dishes eight dimes Friday

Rubio ended Friday's 123-106 victory over the Timberwolves with six points (2-9 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds and eight assists in 23 minutes.

Rubio struggled to find his range from the field but salvaged an otherwise disappointing night by dishing out eight assists. Now that the Cavaliers are close to full health, Rubio has seen his role regress to being more in line with what it was expected to be. His upside in assists and steals makes him a viable 12-team asset, although he obviously isn't going to be for everyone.
