Top Gorgui Dieng News

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Productive in 20 minutes

Dieng amassed eight points (3-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-1 FT), eight rebounds, four assists and one block across 20 minutes during Saturday's 151-131 loss to the Timberwolves.

Dieng was productive in Saturday's loss, playing as the backup center behind Sandro Mamukelashvili. The Spurs continue to change up their rotation on a nightly basis, making streaming a hard tactic to employ when it comes to their squad. Based on the current pattern, there is a chance Dieng sits out the final game of the season against the Mavericks on Sunday.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Posts double-double off bench

Dieng logged 14 points (5-7 FG, 4-5 3Pt), 10 rebounds and two assists in 17 minutes during Friday's 130-115 loss to the Warriors.

Dieng made a significant impact off the bench Friday, securing his first double-double of the season and marking new bests in both points and rebounds. The big man caught fire from beyond the arc, nailing four of his five three-point attempts. Although Dieng doesn't hold a consistent rotation spot, he figures to see decent minutes when one of Zach Collins (rest) or Sandro Mamukelashvili sits.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Rejoins San Antonio

Dieng signed a contract with the Spurs for the remainder of the season Friday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.

Dieng started the year with San Antonio but was cut at the beginning of January and rejoined the organization on a 10-day contract a few days later. He reverted to a free agent after his second 10-day expired at the end of the month, but with his new deal, he's now under contract for the final two months of the regular season. The 33-year-old has made 17 appearances for San Antonio this season and is averaging 3.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per game.

  • Gorgui Dieng: Back on free-agent market

The Spurs didn't retain Dieng after his second 10-day contract expired Jan. 30, Ty Jager of PoundingTheRock.com reports.

Dieng is back on the open market after his latest week-and-a-half-long stint with San Antonio recently came to an end. The veteran center opened the season on the Spurs' 15-man roster, only to be waived in January before re-upping with San Antonio on a pair of 10-day deals. He's appeared in 17 total games this season, averaging 3.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 9.8 minutes.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Sticks in rotation Thursday

Dieng accumulated two points (1-4 FG, 0-2 3Pt), two rebounds and one assist across seven minutes during Thursday's 138-100 loss to the Clippers.

Dieng saw action for the third straight game, although he hasn't had much of an impact when he's been on the court. After signing a second 10-day contract a week ago, Dieng has remained on the fringe of the rotation, basically seeing minutes when the game is over. Clearly, there is nothing to report here in terms of fantasy value.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Lands another 10-day contract

Dieng is signing a second 10-day contract with the Spurs on Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Dieng signed a 10-day contract with the Spurs on Jan. 8 but played just one minute in his lone appearance over the last week and a half. His continued presence with San Antonio shouldn't impact the team's rotation.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Back with San Antonio

The Spurs signed Dieng to a 10-day contract Sunday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Dieng was waived by the Spurs on Thursday to make room for the acquisition of Noah Vonleh from the Celtics, but the veteran big man has since returned to San Antonio on a 10-day deal. Across 13 appearances (one start) this season, Dieng is averaging 4.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 11.6 minutes.

  • Gorgui Dieng: Parting ways with Spurs

Dieng will be waived by the Spurs on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Dieng has had inconsistent playing time for San Antonio this season, and he appeared in just one of the team's last 10 games. He'll be let go following the Spurs' acquisition of Noah Vonleh from the Celtics on Thursday, though San Antonio will also waive Vonleh. Dieng has spent time with the Timberwolves, Grizzlies, Hawks and Spurs during his 10-year professional career, and he may land a spot on a roster elsewhere.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Moves back to bench

Dieng will come off the bench for Wednesday's game against the Pelicans, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.

With Jakob Poeltl (knee) rejoining the lineup following a one-game absence, Dieng will shift back to his usual reserve role Wednesday. In nine appearances, Dieng has averaged 4.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists across 10.8 minutes per contest.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Grabs seven rebounds in spot start

Dieng supplied seven points (3-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt), seven rebounds and three assists across 21 minutes during Sunday's 123-92 loss to the Lakers.

With Jakob Poeltl (knee) taking a seat for the back-to-back, Dieng stepped in and logged 21 minutes. The Spurs brought Dieng back to San Antonio after a year away with the Hawks. He's only appeared in nine games this season, and it would likely take an injury or roster shake-up for Dieng to be fantasy-relevant.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Starting for Poeltl

Dieng will start Sunday's game against the Lakers.

With Jakob Poeltl (knee) sitting the second half of the back-to-back, Dieng will get the nod at center for his first NBA start since midway through last season. The veteran big man has been a fringe rotation option thus far for the Spurs, but he should be set for a notable bump in minutes Sunday.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Dishes out two dimes

Dieng accumulated one rebound and two assists over two minutes during Wednesday's 134-122 loss to Minnesota.

Dieng had no field-goal attempts during Wednesday's defeat, but he still worked as a distributor during his minimal playing time. He's appeared in three of the Spurs' first five games this year and has averaged 2.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 7.7 minutes per game.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Near double-double in loss

Dieng amassed 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt), nine rebounds, four assists and two steals in 21 minutes in a 111-98 loss to New Orleans on Sunday.

Dieng scored seven points in the second quarter, making all three of his shots, and pulling down three rebounds. After playing just nine minutes in his preseason debut Thursday, the 32-year-old filled the box score in his 21 minutes Sunday. He has made 42.8 percent of his three-point shots over the last two seasons and is 3-for-6 from beyond the arc this preseason. Dieng signed a contract with the Spurs in July after playing last season in Atlanta and should get some playing time backing up Jakob Poeltl at center.

  • Spurs' Gorgui Dieng: Heading back to San Antonio

Dieng and the Spurs agreed Tuesday on a one-year contract, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Dieng will prepare for his second stint in San Antonio, after he previously spent the tail end of the 2020-21 campaign with the club following his release from the Grizzlies. He joined Atlanta on a one-year pact for the 2021-22 campaign and appeared in 44 games, averaging 3.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.7 three-pointers, 0.3 blocks and 0.3 steals. The veteran center will help restore some depth for the Spurs in the frontcourt after San Antonio recently dealt big man Jock Landale to Phoenix.
