Prater (quadriceps) is listed as questionable for Sunday's wild-card game against the Jaguars.
Prater sandwiched a full practice Thursday between being a non-participant Wednesday and Friday. The veteran kicker's status appears to be truly up in the air, with Matthew Wright on standby and eligible to be brought up from the practice squad in the event that Prater's unavailable. Prater hasn't finished a game since Week 15, with two absences and an early exit after that point.

Prater and practice squad kicker Matthew Wright are both practicing Thursday, though the former's participation level remains to be seen after Prater didn't practice Wednesday. After kicking in Buffalo's first 14 games of the regular season, Prater sat out Weeks 16 and 17 due to a quadriceps injury in his right, kicking leg, and he was unable to complete the Week 18 win over the Jets due to the injury. Either Prater or Wright will kick for the Bills in Sunday's wild-card road game against the Jaguars.

Bills' Matt Prater: Won't practice Friday, could play
Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Prater (quadriceps) will not practice Friday but stressed that his situation isn't unusual for a kicker, Maddy Glab of the team's official site reports.
Prater practiced in full Thursday, but it appears he'll receive an official questionable designation for Sunday's wild-card game against the Jaguars. McDermott said Buffalo will monitor how the kicker's health holds up during the weekend. After missing back-to-back games, Prater returned to action Week 18 versus the Jets but then was forced off the field early due to an apparent aggravation of his quad injury. If Prater isn't able to play Sunday, Matthew Wright will stand to be elevated from the Bills' practice squad for spot duty.

Bills' Matt Prater: Viewed as 'day-to-day'
Head coach Sean McDermott said Monday that Prater (quadriceps) is "more day-to-day" as the Bills begin preparing for Sunday's wild-card game in Jacksonville, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Prater's nagging right quad injury kept him from kicking in Weeks 16 and 17 and resulted in him being unable to finish this past Sunday's 35-8 win over the Jets, but the aggravation he experienced in the regular-season finale doesn't appear to be viewed as significant. Even so, McDermott acknowledged that while Prater still has a chance at playing in the postseason opener, the Bills plan to bring in other kickers for workouts Tuesday in order to have a replacement option ready to go in case the 41-year-old isn't ready to kick against Jacksonville. Over his 15 appearances during the regular season, Prater knocked down 46 of 49 extra-point tries and 18 of 20 field-goal attempts, with a long conversion of 52 yards.

Bills' Matt Prater: Won't return Sunday
Prater has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Jets due to a right quadriceps injury.
Prater had missed the Bills' prior two games due to the same issue, which he appears to have been aggravated at some point during Sunday's game. Punter Mitch Wishnowsky will serve as the kicker on kickoffs, but the Bills will likely go for two-point conversions after touchdowns with Prater done for the day. It's bad news for the Bills, as Tyler Bass (hip - IR) is on the shelf for the rest of the season, and Prater is now in jeopardy of being sidelined for the wild-card round of the AFC playoffs. Buffalo does not currently have a kicker on the practice squad.

Prater will miss a second consecutive game due to his right quad injury, paving the way for Michael Badgley to draw another start. The next opportunity Prater will have to retake the field will arrive Week 18 at home against the Jets on Sunday, Jan. 4, though it's entirely possible that Buffalo will focus on allowing him ample time to recover for the postseason.

Bills' Matt Prater: Status murky for Week 17
Head coach Sean McDermott said that Prater (quadriceps) won't take part in Tuesday's unofficial walk-through practice, and the Bills don't yet have clarity regarding whether the veteran kicker will be available for Sunday's game agains the Eagles, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
Through the first 15 weeks of the campaign, Prater had been serving as Buffalo's kicker after Tyler Bass sustained a hip/groin injury late in the preseason to ultimately required season-ending surgery. Prater has performed capably while knocking down 18 of 20 field-goal tries and 43 of 46 extra-point attempts, but he emerged from a Week 15 win over New England with a quad injury that he's yet to fully move past. The Bills signed Michael Badgley to the practice squad and elevated him to the roster to handle kicking duties in the Week 16 win over the Browns, with Badgley nailing a 41-yard field goal but missing one of his three point-after tries.

Bills' Matt Prater: Out for Week 16
Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that Prater has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Browns due to a right quadriceps injury, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.
Prater suffered the injury during the Bills' 35-31 win over the Patriots on Sunday, when he converted all five of his extra-point attempts. With Tyler Bass (hip) already done for the season, the Bills will have to pursue a free-agent kicker to hold down the fort for the duration of Prater's recovery. Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo relays that Prater is considered week-to-week and could miss more than one game.

Bills' Matt Prater: Hits five extra points
Prater went 5-of-5 on extra-point attempts in Sunday's 35-31 win over the Patriots.
On a high-scoring day for the Bills' offense, the team's kicker did not get a field-goal try, though he made the most of his extra-point attempts. Prater has now made 43 extra points in 14 regular-season appearances this season, so he does get plenty of scoring opportunities on Josh Allen's team. He just hasn't attempted more than two field goals in a game since Week 2.

Prater converted his lone field-goal try and all four of his PATs in Sunday's 39-34 win over Cincinnati.
Prater had to kick on a snowy field, but that didn't seem to bother him much. He made a chip-shot 26-yard FG late in the first quarter and knocked in all four of his extra-point tries. Prater has been reliable this season, making 18 of 20 field-goal attempts and 35 of 38 PATs.

Prater made both of his field-goal attempts and two of three extra-point tries in the Bills' 26-7 win over the Steelers on Sunday.
Prater's field-goal makes were from 27 and 37 yards, but he missed the PAT following a one-yard touchdown catch from Keon Coleman in the third quarter, the third time in the past six games where he's missed an extra-point try. Prater has kicked in all 12 games for Buffalo this season and has gone 17-for-19 on field goals and 34-for-37 on extra points.

Bills' Matt Prater: Teammate out for season
Coach Sean McDermott revealed Monday that Prater's teammate Tyler Bass (left hip/groin) underwent surgery last week and will be sidelined for the rest of the season, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.
That should give Prater, who was signed in a pinch just ahead of Week 1 and has been kicking for the Bills all season, the team's kicking job for the rest of the campaign. Prater has been dependable for the most part, going 17-for-19 on field-goal attempts, but extra points have been an issue recently and he's missed one in three of the past six games. If you can get past the fact his leg strength isn't what it used to be now that he's 41 years of age and that weather could be an issue with all remaining games played in wintry locations, there's value to be had here in a high-powered offense that still has the Bengals and the Jets on the schedule. Prater currently sits 14th among kickers in total scoring.

Bills' Matt Prater: Makes both FGAs in loss
Prater went 2-for-2 on field-goal tries and made one of two PATs in Thursday night's 23-19 loss to the Texans.
Prater pushed his first extra-point try of the night wide left in the first quarter, which would come back to hurt Buffalo later in the game. The kicker was able to convert both of his field-goal attempts though, adding a 44-yard make in the second quarter before nailing a 38-yarder in the fourth. Prater had gone three straight games with one or fewer field goals, and he's now gone 5-for-6 on field-goal attempts over his last six contests.
