Saints' Jordan Howden: Racks up 11 stops in start
Howden recorded 11 tackles (three solo) in Sunday's Week 6 loss to the Buccaneers.
Howden moved into a starting role with Will Harris (hamstring) placed on IR on Saturday. Howden played every snap against Tampa Bay and finished with a career-high tackle total. The 24-year-old will likely continue to see extended opportunity, at least in the short term, with Harris out at least three more weeks.

Saints' Jordan Howden: First interception of career Sunday
Howden registered three tackles (one solo) and one interception in Sunday's 47-10 win over Carolina.
Howden picked off quarterback Bryce Young on the fourth play of the third quarter on a pass intended for Adam Thielen. It was the first interception of Howden's career, and that turnover led to an Alvin Kamara one-yard touchdown run nine plays later. Howden played 44 of the Saints' 59 defensive snaps, as New Orleans rested most of its starters in the second half with a comfortable lead. Howden and the Saints' secondary have a much tougher challenge coming up as they travel to Dallas to face Dak Prescott and the Cowboys in Week 2.

Howden provided some solid value during his 2023 rookie campaign. The fifth-round pick out of Minnesota was one of the primary fill-ins for starting strong safety Marcus Maye (shoulder), who was sidelined for the final six games of the year. Howden played at least 95 percent of defensive snaps in seven games, though he played 43 percent or less of defensive snaps in his other nine appearances. He'll look to work his way into a more full-time role in 2024.

The rookie safety out of Minnesota was able to practice in full Friday after beginning the week with a DNP, making it seem as if he's been able to move past his illness. Howden has seen his role grow throughout the year, and in his 14 appearances thus far, he's recorded 41 total tackles, including 1.0 sack, while also deflecting five passes and forcing one fumble.

The rookie fifth-round pick gets the nod with Maye sitting the first of three games due to violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Howden started 49 games in five seasons at Minnesota and recorded 240 tackles, 24 passes defended and four interceptions. The safety will try to step in and help a defense that has yet to allow 300 total yards or more than 17 points to an opponent in 2023.
