Giants' Theo Johnson: Won't play Sunday
Johnson (neck) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Texans, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Johnson's lack of participation in Friday's practice session appears to have been indicative of his playing status for Sunday's contest. The tight end will not be able to overcome his neck injury in time for Week 7 and will have to look towards the Giants' Week 9 contest against the Eagles after the bye.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Unlikely to play against Houston
Johnson (neck) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Texans.
Johnson's practice reps in each of the first two practices of Week 7 prep were limited due to a neck injury, and he was sidelined entirely for Friday's session. He's trending toward missing a second consecutive game, so Thomas Fidone and Chris Manhertz would both be in line for more work behind Isaiah Likely in the event that Johnson is ruled out for Sunday's contest.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Still limited at practice Thursday
Johnson (neck) was a limited participant at practice Thursday.
Johnson was back at practice Wednesday after being sidelined because of a neck injury in Week 6 versus the Saints, but another day later, it's still hindering him ahead of a Week 7 tilt at Houston. He'll probably have to log a full practice Friday to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Back at practice Wednesday
Johnson (neck) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Johnson was practicing in a limited capacity in the leadup to the Giants' matchup versus the Saints in Week 6, but he ultimately downgraded to missing practice later in the week before sitting out that contest. He'll likely have to participate fully in practice Thursday or Friday to dodge taking an injury designation into the weekend.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Ruled out against New Orleans
Johnson (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Saints.
A neck injury limited Johnson's practice participation Wednesday and Thursday, but he was a DNP for Friday's session before being subsequently ruled out for Sunday's contest. In his absence, Chris Manhertz and Thomas Fidone are candidates to step into the TE2 role behind Isaiah Likely. Johnson's next chance to play is Week 7 against the Texans on Sunday, Oct. 25.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Dealing with neck injury
Johnson (neck) was listed as a limited practice participant on Wednesday's injury report, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Johnson caught two of three passes for 35 yards during the Giants' 27-27 tie against the Commanders in Week 5, but he may have tweaked his neck at some point during the game. He would avoid an injury tag for Sunday's contest against the Saints if he can log a full practice in one of the next two days of practice.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Secures 11-yard TD in win
Johnson caught his lone target for an 11-yard touchdown in Sunday's 36-24 win over the Cardinals.
Johnson caught the third of Jameis Winston's three touchdowns, scoring from 11 yards out late in the third quarter to give the G-Men a 27-24 lead. Working more as a blocker alongside Isaiah Likely in a pass-catching role, Johnson has just two catches for 20 yards and a touchdown on six targets this season.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Four targets, zero catches in Week 2 loss
Johnson played 16 of the Giants' 58 offensive snaps but did not haul in any of his four targets during Monday's 28-6 loss to the Rams.
All four of Johnson's targets came in the first half, three of which were in the opening quarter. The third-year tight end failed to record a catch, but he did log a tackle on Trent McDuffie after the latter intercepted Jameis Winston midway through the second quarter. Johnson is firmly behind Isaiah Likely on the depth chart, though all of the Giants pass catchers figure to see their production dip with Winston under center instead of Jaxson Dart, the latter of whom could miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Limited offensive production in Week 1
Johnson caught his only target for nine yards in Sunday night's 28-20 win over the Cowboys.
Johnson operated as a clear second-fiddle to Isaiah Likely at tight end in Week 1, with the latter reeling in all eight of his targets for 78 yards and two scores in the game. Johnson was on the field for only 32 of the team's 69 offensive snaps, and as long as Likely is available, he won't have much fantasy appeal this season.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Full practice Wednesday
Johnson (shoulder) was a full practice participant Wednesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Johnson is coming off a 2025 regular season in which he posted a 45-528-5 line on 74 targets in 15 games, but the arrival of TE Isaiah Likely via free agency has provided the former with some competition at the position ahead of his third pro campaign. With the shoulder injury he picked up in an Aug. 24 practice behind Johnson, he'll focus on being a regular part of the Giants offense in Sunday's Week 1 matchup with the Cowboys.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Donning non-contact jersey at practice
Johnson (shoulder) is participating in Monday's practice in a non-contact jersey, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Johnson was injured in practice last Monday and continues to deal with the issue, though his return to action would suggest the tight end is on track to play Week 1 against the Cowboys. Johnson figures to work mostly as a blocker this season after the Giants signed Isaiah Likely to a contract over the offseason.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Dealing with shoulder injury
Johnson missed Wednesday's practice due to a shoulder injury, Evan Barnes of Newsday reports.
Johnson made an early exit Monday and hasn't yet returned, but there's been no indication of a serious injury that would jeopardize his Week 1 status. Giants coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday that Johnson will be ready for the season opener, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Exits Monday's practice
Johnson left Monday's practice due to an unspecified issue, Dan Benton of USA Today reports.
Per the report, Johnson went down while blocking and appeared visibly frustrated as he headed toward the locker room. Per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, coach John Harbaugh noted that the tight end collided with teammate Kayvon Thibodeaux, and at this stage he thinks that Johnson will be okay.

Giants' Theo Johnson: One catch in preseason Week 2
Johnson caught his only target for 12 yards in Saturday's 26-3 preseason win over the Dolphins.
Johnson is expected to work as the Giants' No. 2 TE in 2026 behind offseason addition Isaiah Likely, who previously played under new Giants head coach John Harbaugh in Baltimore. As the team's top option at the position in 2025, Johnson caught 45 of 74 targets for 528 yards and five TDs. Likely's career high in any regular season is only 477 receiving yards, though he was stuck behind Mark Andrews during his stint with the Ravens.

Giants' Theo Johnson: Joined by Likely
Johnson (illness) faces added target competition after the Giants signed Isaiah Likely to a three-year, $40 million contract Monday, Albert Breer of SI.com reports.
Johnson, a 2024 fourth-round pick, emerged as New York's clear top tight end in 2025 while securing 45 of 74 targets for 528 and five touchdowns across 15 regular-season appearances, but Likely's contract and familiarity with new head coach John Harbaugh make him the favorite to lead the position in pass-catching reps. That said, Johnson figures to remain in a significant role on offense and the Giants made it a priority to re-sign blocking specialist Chris Manhertz prior to the start of free agency. It won't be surprising if New York deploys a heavy rotation at right end during the 2026 season. Johnson missed the final two games of 2025 due to an illness but should be fully healthy to begin offseason activities.
