  • 49ers' Danny Gray: Not dressing Sunday

Gray (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game at Chicago, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

A rookie third-round pick, Gray saw plenty of action during the preseason, including a 76-yard connection with Trey Lance for a touchdown in the exhibition opener. Still, Gray won't make the cut for the 49ers in Week 1. Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk are the team's main options at wide receiver, while Jauan Jennings, Ray-Ray McCloud and Malik Turner serve as depth.

  • 49ers' Danny Gray: Totals 24 yards in preseason win

Gray recorded two receptions on four targets for 24 yards in Saturday's preseason win over the Vikings.

Gray drew the second target of the game for San Francisco and tallied receptions of nine and 15 yards. The rookie third-round pick also converted a two-point conversion to put the 49ers up by seven early in the fourth quarter. Gray should be locked into a roster spot but is fighting for a regular role among the team's receiving corps.

  • 49ers' Danny Gray: Full practice Wednesday

Gray (hip/back) returned to full practice participation during Wednesday's joint session with the Vikings, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

In the wake of last Friday's preseason win over the Packers, head coach Kyle Shanahan told Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area that Gray was dealing with hip and back soreness, which was expected to sideline the wideout for a few days. Gray proceeded to miss the 49ers' ensuing two practices before the team made the trip to Minnesota. During 7-on-7 drills Wednesday, the rookie third-round pick connected with Trey Lance on a deep ball down the right sideline, reminiscent of his 76-yard score down the left sideline in the exhibition opener. Assuming he's back to 100 percent, Gray should get some run during Saturday's matchup with the Vikings.

  • 49ers' Danny Gray: Dealing with pair of injuries

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Gray will miss a few days due to hip and back soreness, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Gray broke loose for a 76-yard touchdown down the left sideline during Friday's preseason win against the Packers, connecting with Trey Lance in the process. Overall, Gray hauled in two of four targets for 99 yards and the score. That said, the rookie third-round pick emerged with a pair of health concerns, which could impact his availability for upcoming joint practices with the Vikings and next Saturday's exhibition in Minnesota.

  • 49ers' Danny Gray: Scores 76-yard touchdown Friday

Gray secured two of four targets for 99 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' 28-21 preseason win over the Packers on Friday night.

Gray's yardage total paced the 49ers' pass catchers on the night, and he also recorded a game-long reception when he hauled in a 76-yard touchdown pass from Trey Lance late in the first quarter. The rookie third-round pick's 4.3 speed was evident on the splash play, and Gray will continue his bid to secure a potential No. 3 or No. 4 receiver role during a road preseason clash against the Vikings a week from Saturday night.
