Blue Jays' Dylan Cease: Fans eight in Friday's win
Cease (9-5) earned the win against Seattle on Friday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out eight across six innings.
Cease yielded a solo homer to Dominic Canzone in the first inning but was able to settle in after that, striking out the side in the second frame while keeping the Mariners off the board for the rest of his start. Cease has recorded at least seven strikeouts in 19 consecutive starts, which is tied for the second-longest streak in MLB single-season history behind Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling, both of whom did so in 20 consecutive outings. Cease will take a 2.33 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 217:65 K:BB over 150.1 innings into his next start, lined up for next week on the road against the Guardians.

Jack Leiter SP | TEX
Rangers' Jack Leiter: Shut down following setback
Leiter (ankle) reported biceps soreness after the first inning of his latest rehab outing at Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, Zach Sweet of MLB.com reports.
The Rangers will shut Leiter down from throwing for a few days before reevaluating him. Manager Skip Schumaker said Friday that Leiter's setback will make it harder for him to return this season as a starter, but he may still be able to contribute out of the bullpen if he's able to get fully healthy.

Slade Cecconi SP | CLE
Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Scheduled for rehab outing Sunday
Cecconi (arm) is scheduled to make his next rehab appearance Sunday with Triple-A Columbus, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Cecconi was cleared to begin his rehab assignment Tuesday, when he allowed one hit and one walk while striking out the side in one scoreless inning at Triple-A. He's working his way back from right arm fatigue that landed him on the injured list in early August, and he is progressing toward being back with the Guardians by early September.

Tanner Houck SP | BOS
Red Sox's Tanner Houck: Beginning assignment Tuesday
Houck (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at the Red Sox's complex in Florida on Tuesday, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.
Houck has been on the injured list all season while recovering from the hybrid UCL reconstruction procedure he underwent last August, and he has now reached the point where he's ready to test his elbow in a competitive setting. There is still a chance he makes it back before the end of the season, though the Red Sox will likely have him pitch in several minor-league games before activating him.

Bryce Miller SP | SEA
Mariners' Bryce Miller: Demoted to bullpen
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Friday that Miller is being moved to the bullpen, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
The club had been operating with a six-man rotation since the promotion of top prospect Kade Anderson but will revert to a typical five-man setup. Miller collected a 2.18 ERA and 65:9 K:BB over 57.2 innings in the first half, but he's cratered in the second half with a 7.18 ERA and 27:16 K:BB across 36.1 frames. In Miller's last four outings, the Mariners were outscored 62-7. Wilson noted Friday that Miller's demotion is "not a permanent thing," and that the team still views the hurler as a starter long-term.

Max Fried SP | NYY
Yankees' Max Fried: Confirmed to return Saturday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed Friday that Fried (elbow) will return to the rotation during Saturday's doubleheader versus the Red Sox, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Whether he'll start the first game or second game hasn't been determined, but Fried is set to rejoin the active roster after missing the minimum 15 days due to a bone bruise in his elbow. The left-hander didn't make a rehab start, instead opting for a four-inning live batting practice session Monday. However, since Fried threw 88 pitches in a start just two weeks ago, he should be prepared for a relatively normal workload Saturday.

Noah Cameron SP | KC
Royals' Noah Cameron: Fires six strong innings in win
Cameron (9-8) notched the win against the Blue Jays on Thursday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out three.
The southpaw was taken yard in the sixth inning Thursday for the first time since July 19 against the Padres, but he kept Toronto in check amid an otherwise strong performance. Cameron is putting together an excellent run on the bump, working to a 1.29 ERA and 0.72 WHIP in his last 48.2 innings (seven outings). He'll next set his sights toward improving on his season 3.98 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 131:48 K:BB over 149.1 innings in a home matchup against Miami.

Hayden Wesneski SP | HOU
Astros' Hayden Wesneski: Strikes out six in fourth win
Wesneski (4-1) notched the win against the Yankees on Thursday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks in five-plus innings. He struck out six.
Wesneski worked into the sixth inning Thursday, keeping the Yankees quiet until Ben Rice came across for New York's first run in the sixth. The right-hander appears to be just about ready to handle a full starter's workload following his 2025 Tommy John surgery, reaching the 90-pitch marker in back-to-back starts now. Wesneski has yielded a lone run during that stretch, and he's set to bring a quality 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 28:12 K:BB over 32.2 innings into a home assignment against the White Sox.

It was a tough-luck loss for Cole, who logged his 11th quality start of the season Thursday. The veteran right-hander has been dealing on the mound of late, either posting a quality start or pitching at least five innings while yielding three runs or fewer in 10 consecutive outings. Cole will take a strong 3.19 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 105:21 K:BB over 98.2 innings into his next scheduled appearance in Anaheim against the Angels.

Trevor Rogers SP | BAL
Orioles' Trevor Rogers: Falls to St. Louis
Rogers (9-9) took the loss Thursday against the Cardinals, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out seven.

Coming into the day, Rogers had held opponents to three runs or fewer in 13 of his previous 14 outings, posting a 2.57 ERA across 84 innings in that span. Overall, Rogers' ERA sits at 4.38 across 25 starts (137.2 innings) this season with a 1.25 WHIP and 121:37 K:BB.
