  • Yunior Marte SP | SF

Giants' Yunior Marte: Optioned to Triple-A

The Giants optioned Marte to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday.

The Giants won't need Marte for the rest of the year following his start Friday, so they'll send him down in order to bring in more bullpen depth in the form of Seth Lonsway. The 23-year-old Marte will finish the year with a 4.44 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 24.1 innings after making the jump from Double-A directly to MLB in late August.

  • Chase Hampton SP | NYY

Nationals' Chase Hampton: Jettisoned from 40-man

The Nationals designated Hampton for assignment Saturday.

Hampton was claimed off waivers from the Yankees on Sept. 12, and he'll now be pushed off the 40-man roster before making his organizational debut. His roster spot will go to Connelly Early (elbow), who returned from the 60-day IL to start Saturday's game against the Mets.

  • Connelly Early SP | WAS

Nationals' Connelly Early: Activated for start

The Nationals reinstated Early (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Saturday.

Out since July 1 with left elbow inflammation, Early has since been traded from Boston to Washington and will be making his debut with the Nationals on Saturday. The left-hander pitched just 2.2 innings over the course of two rehab outings and is expected to throw roughly 2-to-3 innings Saturday before handing the ball to Jake Irvin for bulk-relief work. Luis Perales was optioned to Triple-A to make room on the active roster for Early, and Chase Hampton was DFA'd to clear a 40-man spot.

  • Bubba Chandler SP | PIT

Pirates' Bubba Chandler: Early exit in final start of year

Chandler (8-10) took the loss Friday as the Pirates fell 8-7 to the Tigers, coughing up six runs on four hits and four walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out two.

The 24-year-old right-hander did manage to avoid serving up a homer for the first time in five September starts, but there wasn't much else encouraging about Chandler's performance. He needed 77 pitches (42 strikes) to record just eight outs, and he heads into the offseason having stumbled to a 6.65 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 23:12 K:BB in 23 innings over the final month. A late fade isn't all that surprising however, considering he's thrown a career-high 154 innings in 2026. Chandler will head into next season with a spot in the rotation seemingly sewn up, barring some significant additions to the Pirates' staff.

  • David Peterson SP | CHC

Cubs' David Peterson: Blanks BoSox in no-decision

Peterson didn't factor into the decision in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, allowing three hits and two walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out six.

The Cubs ended up getting swept in the twin bill, but it wasn't from a lack of effort on Peterson's part. The southpaw tossed 57 of 91 pitches for strikes, and he heads into the postseason with significant momentum -- since the All-Star break, Peterson's delivered a 2.73 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 67:28 K:BB in 66 innings while going 5-1.

  • Clay Holmes SP | CHC

Cubs' Clay Holmes: No-decision in final start of regular season

Holmes didn't factor into the decision in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out three.

The right-hander took a 3-1 lead into the fifth inning before stumbling and getting lifted after 78 pitches (50 strikes). Holmes wasn't able to repeat his early-season success for the Mets following a trade to the Cubs, and over nine starts for his new team he produced a 4.25 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 33:24 K:BB in 48.2 innings. Whether he has a spot in Chicago's wild-card round rotation could depend on the health of Kevin Gausman (shoulder).

  • Robert Gasser SP | MIL

Brewers' Robert Gasser: Fans nine in dominant outing

Gasser didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Cardinals after allowing one run on a hit and a walk while striking out nine over six innings.

Gasser dominated St. Louis for most of his outing, with the Cardinals' only hit against him coming on Ivan Herrera's solo home run in the fourth inning. However, the bullpen wasted his strong start and ultimately erased Gasser's chance to close out the regular season with a win. It remains to be seen whether Gasser will be part of the Brewers' rotation in the NLDS, but the third-year veteran posted strong numbers in his first full season as a major-league starter. In 21 appearances (20 starts) and 109.1 innings, Gasser delivered a 3.87 ERA and 1.19 WHIP while posting a 103:35 K:BB.

  • Cardinals' Michael McGreevy: Allows four runs Friday

McGreevy didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Brewers after allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out two over 4.2 innings.

McGreevy struggled to keep Milwaukee off the bases before departing with two outs in the fifth, and while Milwaukee jumped to a 4-1 lead, the Cardinals later erased the early deficit. McGreevy closes the season with some ups and downs, but he went undefeated in his last 10 starts, going 3-0 with a 4.78 ERA across 52.2 innings. For the year, the third-year hurler posted career-high marks in innings pitched (168.2), starts (31) and ERA (3.95), among several other categories.

  • Brandon Pfaadt SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Secures win Friday

Pfaadt (8-3) allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out seven over 7.2 innings to earn the win over the Padres on Friday.

Pfaadt put the Diamondbacks in a good spot for the rest of the weekend, sparing the bullpen with a long outing. He threw 71 of 106 pitches for strikes and earned the win to keep Arizona's playoff hopes alive, gaining ground on the Phillies after their loss to the Rays. Pfaadt had gone six starts without a win prior to Friday. He ends the regular season at a 3.77 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 94:32 K:BB across 136 innings over 29 games (19 starts), and he's pitched well enough to warrant a start in the wild-card round if Arizona makes the postseason.

  • Casey Mize SP | SD

Padres' Casey Mize: Awful in 10th loss

Mize (6-10) allowed seven runs on seven hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out one over four innings to take the loss versus the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Mize gave up a home run in each of the first three innings. In his 10 starts as a Padre, he's posted a 7.46 ERA with 13 home runs allowed over 44.2 innings. He posted a 4.32 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 110:38 K:BB through 131.1 innings over 26 regular-season starts, but given his recent form, it'll be tough for San Diego to trust him with a start in the wild-card round.
