  • Quinn Mathews SP | STL

Cardinals' Quinn Mathews: Secures second win

Mathews (2-3) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight over 6.2 innings to earn the win over the Giants on Monday.

Mathews has posted quality starts in each of his last two outings. He limited the damage to Jonah Cox's RBI single in the sixth inning of this contest, marking the fourth time in seven games in which Mathews has given up just one run. Through 37.1 innings, he's maintained a 3.62 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 36:16 K:BB. The left-hander is projected to make his next start at home versus the Nationals.

  • Tarik Skubal SP | LAD

Dodgers' Tarik Skubal: Dominant in win No. 10

Skubal (10-7) earned the win Monday against the Reds, striking out nine while allowing three hits and one walk in seven scoreless innings.

Skubal was dialed in Monday, scattering three singles across seven dominant frames. The All-Star southpaw has either logged a quality start or pitched at least five innings while yielding fewer than three runs in six consecutive outings and 13 of his last 14. He's set to finish a two-start week this weekend against the lowly Giants, sporting a 2.70 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 173:25 K:BB over 146.2 innings.

  • Landen Roupp SP | SF

Giants' Landen Roupp: Gets little help in loss

Roupp (9-14) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over 4.1 innings to take the loss Monday against the Cardinals.

Roupp did fine until running into trouble in the fifth inning. He was pulled at 88 pitches (54 strikes), and Reiver Sanmartin allowed two inherited runners to score, which was enough to leave Roupp holding the loss. Over his last four outings, Roupp has allowed four runs across 20.1 innings, though he sports a lackluster 13:11 K:BB in that span. Overall, he's at a 4.01 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 143:75 K:BB across 155 innings through 29 starts. Roupp's next outing is projected to be a tough road matchup against the Dodgers over the weekend.

  • David Peterson SP | CHC

Cubs' David Peterson: Sharp in win

Peterson (8-8) allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out seven over six-plus innings to earn the win over Atlanta on Monday.

Peterson picked up his first quality start since Aug. 22 with this performance. He's struggled to provide length at times, covering 25 innings over his last five appearances while giving up 12 runs in that span. For the season, the veteran southpaw has a 5.11 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 124:62 K:BB through 137.1 innings over 30 games (21 starts) between the Cubs and Mets. He's lined up for a road start in Cincinnati this weekend.

  • JR Ritchie SP | ATL

Braves' JR Ritchie: Will start Wednesday

Atlanta will recall Ritchie from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Jesus Cano of The Athletic reports.

Ritchie will take the rotation spot of AJ Smith-Shawver, who is now being utilized out of the bullpen. Manager Walt Weiss also said Monday that Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) may be headed to the injured list, which could result in Ritchie picking up another start after Wednesday before the regular season draws to a close.

  • Hyun-Seok Jang SP | LAD

Dodgers' Hyun-Seok Jang: Returns to health

Jang (undisclosed) was activated from the 7-day injured list Sept. 6.

It's not clear at this time what forced Jang to the injured list for the last four-plus weeks, but he was cleared to return for one of his club's final games of the 2026 campaign. He was knocked around for two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out two across one inning Sept. 6 against High-A Lake County.

  • Braves' AJ Smith-Shawver: Shifting to bullpen

Atlanta manager Walt Weiss said Monday that Smith-Shawver is moving to the team's bullpen, Jesus Cano of The Athletic reports.

Smith-Shawver has struggled in his five starts with the big club this season, collecting a 7.71 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 18:13 K:BB over 21 innings. His stuff could play up in the bullpen, and Atlanta wants to give Smith-Shawver a trial run in a relief role down the stretch to see if he can help in that capacity in the playoffs.

  • Roki Sasaki SP | LAD

Dodgers' Roki Sasaki: Status for Thursday still TBD

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Sasaki (finger) threw a bullpen session Monday and is under consideration to return from the 15-day injured list to start Thursday's game in Cincinnati, Maddie Lee of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Sasaki wore Dermabond on his right middle finger to protect against a recurrence of the blister that sent him to the IL on Aug. 27. While Sasaki seemed to come out of his bullpen session OK, Roberts wasn't ready to lock him into Thursday's start yet. Sasaki threw a simulated game last week but would likely have workload restrictions if he's cleared to start Thursday.

  • Emmet Sheehan SP | LAD

Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Sent back to Oklahoma City

The Dodgers optioned Sheehan to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

In two starts after re-entering the Dodgers' rotation, Sheehan allowed a total of one run with a 15:2 K:BB over 11.2 innings. Despite the strong showing, Sheehan will exit the roster to make room for a fresh bullpen arm. If the right-hander is included on the Dodgers' first-round playoff roster, it would likely be as a reliever.

  • Lake Bachar SP | PIT

Pirates' Lake Bachar: Opening Tuesday's contest

Bachar will serve as the Pirates' opening pitcher in Tuesday's game versus the Brewers, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Bachar will draw his sixth start since he landed in Pittsburgh at the trade deadline. He's covered at least 1.2 innings and as much as three frames in his first five opener assignments for the Pirates, so a multi-inning effort Tuesday is likely. Antwone Kelly, Brandon Eisert and Khristian Curtis could all be candidates to cover multiple frames once Bachar exits the game.
