Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro will not be charged pursuant to allegations that he sexually assaulted a Chicago woman in September of 2011, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Castro's accuser claimed that she had accompanied him back to his Chicago apartment after a long night of drinking, passed out, and then awoke to find Castro in the act of sexually assaulting her. However, authorities have opted not to move forward because of a lack of evidence.
“The State’s Attorneys office in conjunction with the Chicago Police Department conducted a comprehensive review and investigation and as a result found insufficient evidence to bring forth criminal charges,” Cook County, Illinois state’s attorney spokeswoman Sally Daly said.
The 22-year-old Castro, an All-Star last season, is hitting .352/.379/.407 thus far in 2012. The Cubs first signed Castro in 2006 as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic.
