Parker spent most of 2019 with Triple-A Salt Lake, where he recorded a .929 OPS with 24 home runs and 75 RBI over 96 games. He appeared in five major-league games with the Angels, but he was designated for assignment after failing to record a hit. The severity of the issue is not yet known, but oblique injuries tend to linger, putting Parker's status for the start of the season in question. Prior to getting hurt the outfielder was hitting .241/.389/.517 with two homers and a 7:9 BB:K this spring.

It seems likely that Parker will still have to settle for a minor-league contract now that he's a free agent, but he could end up joining an organization that offers an easier path back to the majors. It was the 29-year-old's second long ball of the spring, but the free-swinging slugger has struggled to make consistent contact (7-for-30). With the Giants having a crowded outfield for the first time in a long while, Parker projects to be a power bat off the bench. Starting left fielder Hunter Pence has missed significant time over the past couple of seasons, so Parker could be a cheap source of power if he is thrust into a starting role at some point this season.
Parker (shoulder) is set to DH against the Brewers in Friday's Cactus League opener, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Parker only played in 51 games last year due to a broken clavicle that he suffered in mid-April, and he was forced to leave winter ball in early November when he required a plate to be removed from the clavicle.
