Juanyeh Thomas, S, Georgia Tech
NFL Draft analysis for Juanyeh Thomas, S, Georgia Tech
Draft Scouting Report:
Rating: 69.68 (Role player)
Pro Comparison: Kamren Curl
Strengths:
Thomas looks the part of an imposing middle-of-the-field safety who can also play in the box or in the slot if needed. He has loose hips from centerfield, showing the ability to turn and run the seam on vertical routes and stay in phase while doing so. Likewise, he'll come downhill and destroy tight ends on seam or over routes -- offenses will pay for throwing into those zones. He comes downhill with purpose, breaks down with a wide base and form-tackles the ball carrier. He'll also willingly fills gaps in the run game and then lay the wood to whomever has the ball.
Weaknesses:
He can sometimes get caught peeking in the backfield and lose over-the-top responsibilities, and occasionally that will lead to big plays. He can let athletic slot receivers or tight ends get up on toes and baseball turn him on vertical routes. He covers a lot of ground, and moves well laterally but only ran a 4.55 at the combine.
Accolades:
- 2021: Set career highs in tackles (76), TFL (5.0) and passes defended (five)
- 2021: All-ACC honorable mention
