Guard Travelle Wharton thinking about retirement
Since Travelle Wharton isn't seeing much action on the free agent market, he's thinking about ending his career.
Since there doesn't appear to be much interest in former Panthers guard Travelle Wharton -- who was ranked by Pro Football Focus as the No. 5 guard last year but whose time on the free agent market has been quiet thus far -- he attended the pro day of Jadeveon Clowney on Wednesday.
No final decision has been made, Wharton said, but the soon-to-be 33-year-old who missed the 2012 season with a torn ACL before returning strong last season reportedly had some interest from the Vikings and Dolphins. But Minnesota re-signed Charles Johnson and Miami went with Shelley Smith.
That leaves Wharton, ranked No. 76 on the CBSSports.com free agent list, with nowhere to go for now.
"I’m really just enjoying my family time right now,” Wharton told the Observer last month. “I don’t want to say I’m done and I don’t want to say I’m going to keep playing for another five or six years. I don’t know.”
